'Miss Representation' Documentary Screening
7 p.m.
The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc and the Phi Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. host a screening of the documentary "Miss Representation" in the University Student Commons, Forum Room. The cultural effects of media on gender roles will be discussed. Food and drinks will be provided.

'Putting Corruption Out of Business: An Insider's View of Operation Greylord'

The Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs Criminal Justice program presents Terrance Hake, who posed as a corrupt prosecutor and helped the FBI gain indictments against 103 judges, attorneys and court personnel for selling the justice system to the highest bidder, in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons III-IV. Hake will share investigative techniques and ethical lessons learned from the Greylord investigation and trials. Free and open to the public.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Episcopal Campus Ministry at VCU celebrates Shrove Tuesday with a pancake supper at Grace and Holy Trinity Church, 8 N. Laurel St. This event is open to the public at $7 per plate and includes pancakes, grits, sausage/vegetarian bacon and scrambled eggs. From 5:30-6 p.m., there will be a "Jack of All Crepes" pancake construction contest that teams of 2-4 may enter for $20. Volunteers are needed. To volunteer, use the contact information below. Proceeds will benefit Red Door Soup Kitchen and mission work in Belize.

'Syrian Refugee Camp #019 Bekaa Valley, Lebanon: Trapped Between Immanuel Kant’s 'Perpetual In-Hospitality' and Michel Foucault’s 'Bio-Politics of Live and Let Die'
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The School of World Studies International Studies Program presents a teach-in in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 2201, examining the plight of Syrian refugees from two philosophical paradigms - one of Immanuel Kant’s "Perpetual Peace" and the concept of "Hospitality"; and second through the intersectionality of Michel Foucault’s biopolitics of "Live and Let Die." The discussion is part of research on the persecution of homosexuals, the enslavement of Yazidi women, the plight of Syrian refugees and the trafficking of vulnerable persons. This was made possible by research grants from VCU’s Humanities Research Center and Global Education Office.
Film Screening: 'Cries from Syria '
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
In partnership with the International Rescue Committee in Charlottesville and Richmond, VCU hosts an exclusive pre-screening of the HBO documentary, "Cries from Syria," in the Harris Hall Auditorium. This film focuses on child protesters, revolution icons, activists and high-ranking Army generals who defected to join the fight of the people. It tells the story of the Syrian people who have never lost hope. Participants will also hear from a Syrian family who has resettled in Richmond.
'Passport to Asia'
Wednesday, Mar. 1, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Alpha Kappa Delta Phi and its fellow Joint Asian Organizations (JAO) present the annual "Passport to Asia" event in the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballroom. Attendees will explore different Asian cultures and enjoy a variety of free food, performances, games and prizes. Featuring special demos by aKDPhi at VCU, John Kang Acupuncture, Vietnamese Student Association, Wushu Club at VCU, Blank Canvas, LiNK, Rhythm & Rhyme at VCU, RamJUDO, and FACT at VCU.

CGSO Luncheon: 'Lent is Life Giving, NOT Life Taking'

The Catholic Graduate Student Organization invites all to a luncheon in Sanger Hall, Room 3-016. The importance of Lent and how to make it a powerful experience of God's grace will be discussed. The presenter will be Fr. Gino Rossi, a priest for four years and pastor of St. Peter, St. Patrick and St. John Catholic churches. He is 34 years old and a Pittsburgh native but grew up in York County, Virginia.

Mini Ram Camp @ VCU Rec Sports
VCU Recreational Sports offers a summer "Mini Ram Camp" to provide a safe, fun environment for children ages 6-10 of the VCU and surrounding community. Weekly sessions are scheduled between June 19 and Aug. 7. Camp registration opens to children of VCU students and Recreational Sports members on Monday, Feb. 13.
