VCU to Conduct Test of Emergency Communications
VCU will conduct a full test of its emergency communication systems, including 10 sirens throughout the Monroe Park and MCV campuses, at noon today, Feb. 1. The full test will include the sirens along with text messages, Alertus boxes, mass email, digital signs, social media and VCU website information – all part of a multichannel system for communicating emergency information to VCU students, faculty, staff, visitors and the community.

Cancer Prevention and Control Retreat

The Cancer Prevention and Control program at Massey Cancer Center presents its keynote seminar in the Molecular Medicine Research Building, Rooms 1009/1011. The speaker will be Graham Colditz, M.D., DrPH, Niess-Gain professor of surgery, professor of medicine and associate director prevention and control, Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center deputy director, Institute for Public Health, Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes Jewish Hospital chief, Division of Public Health Sciences, Department of Surgery, Washington University School of Medicine.
RamTHON's THON Day
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
RamTHON kicks off the countdown to RamTHON at THON Day in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms. Participants will learn more about RamTHON while having the opportunity to make crafts for the kids at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Various dance groups from around campus will be performing at 3 p.m.
'Nutrition for Cancer Survivors'
5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
VCU Massey Cancer Center invites the VCU community to join registered dietitian Elizabeth Miller, R.D., C.S.O., for a series of four workshops about the connection between nutrition and cancer survivorship. The workshops will be held on Wednesdays throughout February from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at VCU Massey Cancer's Stony Point Patient Resource Library, 9000 Stony Point Parkway, Second Floor.
Black History Month Kick-Off
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) invites the VCU community to its inaugural Black History Month kickoff at the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, 122 W. Leigh St. The event will include song performances, a stepping performance by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and Virginia Union University's Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated and a keynote speech by Zoe Spencer, Ph.D.

'Politics and Policy in the Trump Presidency'
Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Department of Political Science holds a town hall in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 1201. This is an opportunity for students to ask questions and for political science faculty to present analysis of the political and policy issues surrounding the Trump presidency. The event will be moderated by professor Ravi Perry and will feature professors Deirdre Condit, John Froitzheim and Bill Newmann.

The Activities Programming Board presents a screening of "Bad Boys" at 7 p.m. and "Men In Black" at 9:30 p.m. in the Commons Theater. Movies will also be shown on Saturday, Feb. 4, with "Bad Boys" starting at 7 p.m. and "Men In Black" at 9:30 p.m. in the Commons Theater.

Follow Up to the President’s Forum on Social Justice and Spring Climate Survey
Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Office of the President and the Division for Inclusive Excellence present and discuss the feedback from the fall Presidential Forum on Social Justice, as well as the findings from the 2016 survey on campus climate. The first presentation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Egyptian Building, Baruch Auditorium. The second presentation will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Commons Theater.
VCU Libraries 15th Annual Black History Month Lecture: 'The Underground Railroad' by Colson Whitehead

VCU Libraries presents the 15th annual Black History Month Lecture: "The Underground Railroad" by Colson Whitehead in Cabell Library, Lecture Hall. Acclaimed multi-genre fiction writer, Colson Whitehead, will present his latest book, the National Book Award-winning novel "The Underground Railroad, a haunting fusion of historical fiction and magical realism that tells the story of a pair of slaves who attempt to escape the South using an actual secret network of tunnels and tracks beneath the earth. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

'Masters in Healthcare Professionals Education: Do We Need It? What Should it Look Like?'
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 from noon to 1 p.m.
The Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care invites the VCU community to the Molecular Medicine Research Building, Room 1-009, to discuss the School of Education developing a master's degree focused on teaching and learning in the health care professions. Questions such as "is this degree something that health care professionals want and need?" and "what should be included in the program to make it attractive to those who have learning development roles in health care?" will be answered. Attendees should come with ideas for what courses should be a part of this degree, as well as suggestions for the target audience and how to reach them. Food will be provided for those who register. Open Science Sessions Teach Tactics in Transparency
VCU Libraries hosts two free workshops on Tuesday, Feb. 7, by the Center for Open Science to teach easy, practical steps to increase the reliability of research projects. The morning session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Cabell Library. The afternoon session will held from 1-4 p.m. at Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences.
