The Division for Inclusive Excellence invites faculty, administrators and staff to attend a two-day workshop from Feb. 16-17, in the Larrick Student Center, Court End Ballrooms A-B, for Building Inclusive Communities (BIC), the initiative to support the university community in creating an engaged, diverse and inclusive campus environment. Workshop goals include understanding historically marginalized and privileged group dynamics; learning to identify and avoid behavioral traps that contribute to cycles of inequality; and creating a personal plan for changing inequitable behaviors and practices. Trombonist, composer and jazz studies director Antonio Garcia presents his Faculty Jazz Recital in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. The recital will feature trumpeter Rex Richardson, vocalist Mary Hermann Garcia, VCU Jazz Orchestra I, Greater Richmond High School Jazz Band, Nashville Avenue Stompers, as well as videoed choreography by dance professor Eric Rivera to a commissioned composition by Garcia.
