Supply Drive for RamPantry and Safe Harbor
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
VCU Police holds a supply drive to benefit the RamPantry and The Safe Harbor Shelter. Items may be dropped off at the VCUPD Mobile Safety Center, outside of the campus Walmart, 912 W. Grace St. Items needed include food items, household cleaning products, new linens and personal care items. Officers and volunteers will have a detailed list at the collection site.
Shafer Spring Farmer’s Market
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
VCUDine hosts a spring farmer's market inside and in the front of Shafer Court Dining Center. Farmer vendors local to Virginia will be on-site with goods available for purchase including fruit, vegetables, jams, herbs, tofu and sweets. Cash, credit, RamBucks and Dining Dollars will be accepted. Free example and lawn games will be on-site for guest use.

'Meet VCU's Authors': Gregory Kimbrell

The Humanities Research Center and VCU Libraries presents Gregory Kimbrell, VCU Libraries, as part of the "Meet VCU's Authors" series, in Cabell Library, Room 250. Kimbrell will be speaking about his new book of poems, "The Primitive Observatory." Admission is free and all are welcome.

VCU Disability Support Services holds a peer-to-peer mentorship interest meeting in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms C-D. This program is designed to help students with disabilities acclimate to campus life by partnering them with a fellow student who may have a similar disability.

VCU Alumni presents a pop-up shop for attendees to purchase vintage VCU Alumni articles of clothing, accessories and home decor on Thursday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.; and Saturday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the VCU Office of Development and Alumni Relations, 111 N. 4th St.

Kappa Delta Rho's 'Karnival for Kids'

Kappa Delta Rho hosts its fourth annual "KDR Karnival for Kids" on the Commons Plaza. There will be games, prizes and performances by VCU student organizations. All proceeds will benefit the B+ Foundation to assist in their efforts to provide funding and support to children diagnosed with cancer.
Community Service Roundtable Discussion

The Student Leadership and Involvement Center hosts an interactive discussion in the University Student Commons, Alumni Board Room, that is open to students who want to learn more about community service opportunities. These discussions will feature upcoming service opportunities from SLIC staff, cross-organization collaboration opportunities and a chance to discuss successes and challenges in partnering with organizations in the Richmond community.

The Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs presents the sixth annual "Plan-Off 2017: Real Challenges. Real Solutions." at the Virginia Housing Center, 4224 Cox Rd., Glen Allen. The Wilder School's Master of Urban and Regional Planning students will be presenting their ideas for a better community. Twelve students will compete for a prize by pitching their solution to a real-world planning, public policy or management problem. Free and open to the public.

Multicultural Greek Council: 'Stroll Off'

The Multicultural Greek Council holds its 2017 "Stroll Off" on the Commons Plaza. The first 125 guests will receive free King of Pops and Red Eye Cookies and Beats headphones will be raffled off. Tank tops will be sold to benefit the Egyptian Cancer Network. The rain space will be in the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballrooms.
Free Oral Cancer Screenings at VCU Dental Care

In observance of National Oral Cancer Awareness Month, the Oral Medicine and Orofacial pain clinic at VCU Dental Care, hosts free oral, head and neck cancer screenings at VCU Dental Care, 512 N. 12th St. The common risk factors for oral cancer are tobacco use, excessive consumption of alcohol, and more recently, the human papilloma virus (HPV). Cultural Awareness Day

The Association of Black Social Workers at VCU hosts the second annual Cultural Awareness Day at the Academic Learning Commons. Cultural Awareness Day seeks to build multicultural awareness and skills for working with diverse populations. Current students, faculty and alumni are invited to attend workshops that will educate about cultural competence. Cheryl S. Al-Mateen, M.D., will provide the keynote address. Volunteer Opportunity: Jefferson Park Clean-up

Ethiopian Student Union Culture Show

The Ethiopian Student Union hosts a cultural show in the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballroom, with members showcasing Ethiopian culture through a skit, fashion show and dance performances from several tribes in Ethiopia. Admission and food are free.

VCU holds a second town hall for feedback on its new strategic plan in Sanger Hall, Room 2020. In addition to providing an update on the progress of the plan, these town halls will offer an opportunity for the VCU community to provide input on key themes emerging from the plan thus far.

Second Annual Quality in Clinical Research Conference

The Office of Research presents the second annual Quality in Clinical Research Conference at the Larrick Student Center. This year's conference will feature morning keynote sessions on "Biomarker Development" by Arun Sanyal, M.D., and "Responsible Conduct of Research" by Francis Macrina, Ph.D., and will cover "Current Hot Topics in Clinical Research." Two afternoon tracks are available. One for early clinical researchers will provide key information on how to successfully conduct clinical research at VCU. The second track includes breakout sessions providing valuable information highlighting federal regulation, university policy, and good clinical practice (GCP). There is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided. All clinical and translational researchers are invited, and attendance is highly recommended for new faculty members interested in conducting clinical research at VCU. VCU Inclusive Excellence Study Abroad Scholarship: Accepts Applications
The Division for Inclusive Excellence announces two $500 scholarships for students who will be studying abroad in summer 2017. Applicants are invited to submit a statement of purpose describing why they want to study abroad, a description of their program and how it was selected, and what challenges they have faced in pursuing this study abroad experience. Applications are due to the contact below no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
