Faculty and Staff Open Enrollment for Health Coverage and Flexible Spending: May 1 – May 15

Open enrollment for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s health coverage and flexible spending plans takes place from May 1 – May 15. Eligible university faculty and classified staff may enroll in flexible spending accounts and/or make changes to health coverage elections for the plan year that begins July 1, 2017. No action is required to maintain current health coverage elections for the upcoming plan year, but enrollment is required to begin or continue participation in flexible spending. COVA Care and COVA HealthAware participants can qualify for premium rewards for the upcoming plan year by completing a new or updated health assessment. This year’s open enrollment uses paper election forms only; online elections are not available. See information, resources, and tools at www.hr.vcu.edu/open-enrollment. Questions? Great Place: HR Redesign

The HR Redesign committee members would like to thank everyone for their participation in the policy open comment period. The draft of the VCU Human Resources policy has been revised based on the feedback we received during the open comment period. Check out the revised policy as well as a summary of the open comment process‌, including respondent demographics, themes that emerged through the comments and the proposed policy revisions at greatplace.vcu.edu/policy. Discovery Summer Camp for Youth at VCU

The Mary and Frances Youth Center opens registration for its Discovery summer camp. Discovery offers rising sixth through eighth graders fun, one-week classes focused on STEM disciplines, health sciences and the arts from July 24 to Aug. 18. Class options include: Perfect Percussion, Exhibit Your World, Yoga with the Oomies, and Pharmacy: Curating Cures. Discovery supports the reduction of summer learning loss and provides opportunities for youth to dream, explore and investigate future careers. To register, visit the website below.

Faculty, Staff and Retiree Fundraising Campaign

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations is in week five of its annual Faculty, Staff and Retiree Fundraising Campaign. Those interested in contributing can give back to VCU or VCU Health scholarships, funds or another favorite recipient. VCU Police Chief John Venuti is honorary chair of the campaign, which concludes Tuesday, May 16. Gifts made throughout fiscal year 2017 will count toward the campaign. In fiscal year 2016, the Faculty, Staff and Retiree Campaign drew 1,757 donors and raised $3.78 million. The goal is to top last year's participation.

Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology Research Study

The Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology at VCU Medical Center is conducting a research study to determine how a treatment for allergies affects certain immune cells called mast cells and basophils. Healthy volunteers are requested. The study will require participation for about 2 months, with up to 3 visits to our clinic. Volunteers will be compensated for their participation. Volunteers will be eligible if they are healthy adults between 18 and 65 years old and have seasonal allergy symptoms. Volunteers will not be eligible if they are currently receiving allergy shots, have certain medical conditions, or if they or their partner are pregnant.
