'Queer Threads': Jeanne Vaccaro, A Lecture on Transgender Craft
11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
As part of VCUarts Department of Craft/Material Studies event series, "Queer Threads," Visiting Scholar Jeanne Vaccaro presents a lecture about Trans Craft in Oliver Hall, Physical Science Wing, Room 1024. Vaccaro is a postdoctoral fellow in gender studies at Indiana University, curator of "Bring Your Own Body: Transgender Between Archives and Aesthetics," and is currently working on the book, "Handmade: Feelings and Textures of Transgender,” which looks at the haptic and "felt" labor of identity.

'How to Treat a Woman Seminar: Transforming Aging: Let’s #Disrupt Ageism Together'

The Institute for Women's Health hosts "How to Treat a Woman: Strategies for Health Care and Self Care" brown bag lunch series in Main Hospital, First Floor Learning Center. Ayn Welleford, Ph.D., chair, Department of Gerontology, will address ageism, challenging society's view of aging as deterioration and decline, while promoting strategies for healthy aging. Sikh Student Association Turban Day

The Sikh Student Association invites the VCU community to get their turban tied and learn more about the significance of the turban on the Compass. Participants will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding about the Sikh faith while interacting with members of the Sikh community at VCU.
Community Service Roundtable Discussion

The Student Leadership and Involvement Center hosts an interactive discussion in the University Student Commons, Alumni Board Room, that is open to students who want to learn more about community service opportunities. These discussions will feature upcoming service opportunities from SLIC staff, cross-organization collaboration opportunities and a chance to discuss successes and challenges in partnering with organizations in the Richmond community.
Film Screening and Question-and-Answer Session: 'Forbidden: Undocumented and Queer in Rural America'

The Division for Inclusive Excellence and Latinx Graduate Student Association invite the VCU community to the screening of the award-winning documentary, "Forbidden: Undocumented and Queer in Rural America," in Cabell Library, Room 303. The documentary presents Moises Serrano’s journey as Mexican-American living in rural North Carolina, as he faces challenges due to his undocumented status, his sexuality and the lack of resources. Tiffany Rhynard, director and producer, and Heather Mathews, writer and producer, will attend.

'The Language Ghost: Linguistic Heritage and Collective Identity Among the Monacan Indians'

The Alexandrian Society with the support of the Department of History hosts Karenne Wood, Ph.D., Virginia Indian Program, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, discussing the linguistic history of the Monacan Indian in the University Student Commons, Forum Room. 'Trump vs. the Media'
7 p.m.
The Robertson School of Media and Culture, VCU Libraries and the Society of Professional Journalists present "Trump vs. the Media" in the T. Edward Temple Building, Room 1164. Wyatt Andrews, professor of practice, Department of Media Studies at University of Virginia, and a former CBS news correspondent, will speak about fake news and the relationship between journalists and the current administration. The lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session. This event is part of the Robertson School's Turpin Lecture Series.

The Emerging Leaders Program holds an event for transfer students to de-stress before exam season and meet other transfer students on the lawn next to Harris Hall. There will be great people, student organizations and free food.

The Machine To Be Another from Be Another Labs @ the VCUarts Depot: Open Sessions

Funded by the VCUarts Inclusion Infusion Initiative, The Depot hosts "The Machine To Be Another," a multidisciplinary collaborative group of virtual reality researchers, designers, technicians and performers from Barcelona, Spain, at The Depot. Combining neuroscience protocols with art performance, they question the brain’s ability to perceive and to experience what it is like to be in the body of another person.

Spring Garden Renewal

Dominion Place Partnership and the VCU Student Government Association sponsor a spring garden renewal at Dominion Place Apartments, 1025 W. Grace St. Shifts are available from 10:30 a.m. to noon, 1-2:30 p.m. and 3-4:30 p.m. Participants will assist in cleaning the rooftop gardens of the apartment complex and create a wonderful social environment for residents. Pizza will be served at lunchtime, as well as snacks and lemonade in the late afternoon.
Outdoor Adventure Program Backpacking Weekend: April 15-16
Saturday, Apr. 15, 2017 at 8 a.m.
The VCU Outdoor Adventure Program offers a backpacking weekend from April 15-16. Participants will take in the scenic views and vibrant colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia. The cost for students will be $44 and registration is available online or in-person at the Outing Rental Center.

The Department of Psychology invites the VCU community to enjoy a final lecture by James McCullough, Ph.D., ahead of his upcoming retirement in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 2100. The title of the lecture is "Swimming Upstream," which will include a brief overview of his memoir-in-progress illustrating how his CBASP therapy system for chronic depression evolved over time.

2017 Qatar Leadership Exchange

Global Water Brigades at VCU Nicaragua Trip
Global Brigades Water Chapter at VCU accepts applications for its winter break trip to Nicaragua to build sustainable water systems and implement public health projects. Global Brigades is a nonprofit organization focused on helping communities in Panama, Ghana, Honduras and Nicaragua be self-sufficient. The application will be open until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 14.
