The Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research sponsors the Central Virginia Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA) meeting in the McGlothlin Medical Education Center, Rooms 11-101/11-102. Three case studies involving hypothetical research ethics questions will be presented for small group discussions. Following small group discussions, the combined groups will present their case study resolutions.

Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences and University Student Commons and Activities host a film screening of "Handmaidens and Battleaxes: The Real Story of Nursing" in the Hunton Student Center, TML Learning Center, Room 209. This global picture of nursing, using Australia as a case study, uses rare archival footage, dramatic re-enactments, interviews and photographs from nursing colleges worldwide. Following the screening, engaging discussion will be led by Jodi Koste, archivist.

VCU Rec Sports offers an American Red Cross lifeguard re-certification to those with a current American Red Cross lifeguard, first aid, CPR/AED certification. This class will re-certify participants in American Red Cross lifeguarding, CPR, AED, first aid and oxygen for two years. The course costs $50 for students, $75 for members and $125 for non-members. The program is from May 20-21, and registration ends Friday, May 19, at noon.

The VCU Institute for Women's Health and Highland Support Project spend a week, July 22-29, in partnership with indigenous midwives and community leaders learning about traditional Maya medicine and exploring the history of healthcare and healing in Guatemala. The group will learn about traditional medicine and midwifery practices. The cost is $985 plus airfare. The application deadline is Saturday, May 20.
