The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosts the annual "Meet the Rams: Make A Change" event on the Compass. This is an opportunity for attendees to meet the 2017-18 Ram student-athletes and help raise money to benefit VCU Massey Cancer Center.
Campus Scheduling Services Information Workshop: 'Virtual EMS and Reserving Space on Campus'
12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Campus Scheduling Services hosts a "How-To Virtual EMS and Space Reservation" workshop for departments and student organizations in Hibbs Hall, Room 403. Attendees will learn how and when to book space on campus and the rules for reserving academic, outdoor and other spaces. Participants are encouraged to bring questions, event planners, schedulers and fellow organization board members to learn how to host a successful event, conference or meeting on campus. No RSVP or reservation is required.

'Appy Hour: Getting the Most Out of Your Apple® Watch'

RamTech invites faculty and staff to attend a free Apple® Watch "Appy Hour" in the University Student Commons, Forum Room. The lunchtime seminar will demonstrate top functions of the Apple Watch and how special features can help wearers stay active, motivated and connected. Attendees can brown bag their lunch. Screening: 'Fresh Dressed' Documentary

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs presents a free screening of the documentary "Fresh Dressed" in the University Student Commons Theater. "Fresh Dressed" is a fascinating chronicle of hip-hop, urban fashion, and the hustle that brought oversized pants and graffiti-drenched jackets from Orchard Street to high fashion catwalks and Middle America shopping malls.

VCU BEST Series: 'Understanding NIH Individual Training Grants'
3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Career Services, the Center on Health Disparities Research Training and the Office of Research present "Understanding NIH Individual Training Grants" in Sanger Hall, Room 2-020. John Ryan, Ph.D., and Melissa Throckmorton, from the Office of Research, will offer advice to predoctoral students interested in applying for NIH individual training grants, which intend to support students to develop into productive, independent research scientists while conducting dissertation research.

'Foundations of Hip Hop: If Ya Don't Know, Now Ya Know!'

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs presents a panel discussion featuring the iconic Jorge "Fabel" Pabon, Grandmaster Caz and Roxanne Shante in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons. Richmond's own DJ Lonnie B will be moderating a discussion with the panel. These legends of hip hop will be discussing how this genre has changed the landscape of music, dance and hip hop as a social justice movement.

The Social Enterprise Club hosts Dan Fickett, RVA Works, to start off the semester-long speaker series in the University Student Commons, Founders Corner. Fickett is president and co-founder of RVA Works, a nonprofit cultivating entrepreneurs with social impact that provides related curriculum, coaching, pathways to capital and inclusive professional networking through 1 Million Cups.

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs presents a "Teach-In" with Brittney Maddox in the University Student Commons, Suite 215. Attendees will enjoy a presentation about hip-hop's relationship to rappers and other urban artists. The presentation will discuss prominent rappers who have shared their experience, party culture as self-medication, and gender expectations within hip-hop.

Recreational Sports: Open House for Faculty and Staff
Thursday, Sep. 14, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
VCU and VCU Health Human Resources representatives and Recreational Sports hold an open house at the Cary Street Gym on the Monroe Park Campus for faculty and staff. The event will include tours, membership information, BMI screening and wellness activities. The MCV Campus open house will take place on Friday, Sept. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the MCV Campus Recreation Center. No registration is needed. These sessions will count towards VCU's RamStrong Wellness Challenge.

Richmond Teacher Residency: 'Coffee and Conversation' Information Session

The VCU Richmond Teacher Residency Program holds a "Coffee and Conversation" information session at 3600 W. Broad St., Suite 300. Residents learn side-by-side with top Richmond Public School teachers for an entire year while earning a master's degree from VCU. Residents receive one-on-one training from a content-specific coach throughout the first two years of their teaching careers.

Last of the Season Summer Concert Series

Off Campus Student Services and the Fan Association host a concert in Meadow Park, 401 N. Meadow St. The event will feature the band, Faculty Lounge (jazz, bluegrass and Americana). Free ice cream and roommate portraits will be provided. Pets are welcome as well. Attendees should bring lawn chairs and a picnic dinner.

Upcoming RamRide Impacts
Due to extensive road closures on Leigh, Clay and Marshall streets, the Connector Express will discontinue service at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15. Additionally, the I Lot shuttle will suspend service to the Coliseum Deck beginning at 4 p.m. Coliseum Deck subscribers who cannot exit by 4 p.m. should park in D Deck during this time. In the event road closures extend into the weekend, additional impacts to the Connector and/or RamSafe may occur.

The VCU Office of Continuing and Professional Education (OCPE) presents a variety of face-to-face and online opportunities for personal and professional development for VCU faculty, staff, students and alumni.
