Carlson is an interdisciplinary designer from Brooklyn, New York, working with collections of semiotic content generated through processes of drawing, image/object collection and assemblage.

Landscape Photography Workshop
8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Photography Club at VCU holds a landscape photography workshop in the Honors College, Multipurpose Room 1303. Participants will learn and discuss the best techniques for capturing beautiful, scenic images, whether with a DSLR or smartphone. Attendees can also receive feedback photos brought to the workshop. Final 2018 Dogs on Call Calendar Sales Date
Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Center for Human-Animal Interaction holds its final 2018 Dogs on Call calendar sales on the MCV Campus in the Main Hospital Learning Center. Attendees can meet the Dogs on Call therapy dogs and show support by purchasing a 2018 Dogs on Call calendar for $10. All proceeds support the Dogs on Call and The Center for Human-Animal Interaction and will help therapy dogs continue to spread joy to patients, students and staff. This is the last sales date. Calendars can also be purchased at Virginia Book Company.

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program: Slackline Clinic

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program offers a slacklining clinic for participants to learn the basic skills of slacklining, such as how to approach the line, strategies for walking on the line, and see demonstrations of more advanced skills to work towards in the Cary Street Gym, Climbing and Bouldering Wall.

Rennolds Series Concert: Leon Fleisher and Katherine Jacobson

VCU Music presents a performance by Leon Fleisher and Katherine Jacobson in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall, as part of the Mary Anne Rennolds Chamber Concert Series. Duo performances of legendary pianist and conductor Leon Fleisher with internationally renowned pianist Katherine Jacobson have received accolades from music’s most respected critics. Tickets are $35 for general admission; $32 for seniors (60+), VCU employees and VCU Alumni Association members; and $25 for children 16 and under.

'Wednesdays in The Workshop: Rapid Prototyping for Product Design'

VCU Libraries hosts "Wednesdays in the Workshop," an open house designed to help attendees explore new equipment, techniques, softwares or experiences every Wednesday in the lower level of Cabell Library. This week, participants will learn techniques to quickly and accurately fabricate a model of their design using 3D modeling and printing. No registration is required.

Catholic Graduate Student Organization: Luncheon Meeting

The Catholic Graduate Student Organization holds its next luncheon meeting in the McGlothlin Medical Education Center, Room 6-101. Dan Markley, D.O., infectious diseases consultant and associate hospital epidemiologist, Richmond VA Medical Center, will present "A Catholic Approach to End of Life Care." This complex issue requires a bioethical position to keep "dying well" from becoming mercy killing or stealth euthanasia. Markley will review the current date of palliative care and hospice medicine. Give Kids A Smile Day at VCU Dental Care
Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
VCU Dental Care's Pediatric Practice offers free services at the Lyons Dental Building, 520 N. 12th St., to children in need of dental care who do not have dental insurance on Give Kids a Smile Day. Pediatric dental specialists provide exams, cleanings, X-rays, fillings, extractions and minor restorations for children ages 0-18 years old. Give Kids a Smile Day, created by the American Dental Association, is an annual focus of National Children's Dental Health Month and is observed every year during the month of February. The program was designed to provide education, preventative and restorative oral health care for children. To schedule an appointment, call the number below. Walk-ins are welcome, however, are not guaranteed to be seen. Appointments are highly encouraged.

'The Opioid Epidemic: Impact on Communities'

The Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs presents "The Opioid Epidemic: Impact on Communities," a discussion on the epidemic from a variety of perspectives focusing on how deterioration of communities has invited and encouraged drug use and crime, in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons. Access to health care and public opinion on treatment will also be discussed. The session follows the theme of VCU's Common Book, "Dreamland," by Sam Quinones.

Two-Day Building Inclusive Communities Workshop, Feb. 8-9: Registration Open

The Division for Inclusive Excellence invites faculty, administrators and staff to its two-day VCU Building Inclusive Communities (BIC) workshop from Feb. 8-9, in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons. To register, visit training.vcu.edu using the keyword: diversity. BIC supports the university community in creating an engaged, diverse and inclusive campus environment. Workshop goals include understanding historically marginalized and privileged group dynamics; learning to identify and avoid behavioral traps that contribute to cycles of inequity; and creating a personal plan for changing inequitable behaviors and practices. VCU Recreational Sports: Women on Weights
VCU Recreational Sports is offering two sessions of Women on Weights during February and March. Each week participants learn new equipment and exercises to gain confidence in the weight room. One session will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, and the other will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays. Registration ends on Friday, Feb. 2.

2018 Summer Fellowships for Undergraduate Research at VCU: Call for Proposals
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program offers funded fellowship opportunities for undergraduates and faculty mentors to partner on research projects during the summer of 2018 at VCU. In addition to the UROP Fellowship, fellowships funded by the Center for Clinical and Translational Research, the Global Education Office and the Division for Inclusive Excellence will also be offered.
