Safety and Risk Management invites the VCU community to its Safety Expo in Main Hospital, Second Floor Conference Room (above the cafeteria), for best practices on staying safe. Attendees will receive important information about fire safety, fire extinguisher training, chemical spills, black bin information, blood pressure screening, pedestrian safety, hands-only CPR and AED information, computer safety, VCU Police (LiveSafe app) and hospital security.

Mix and Mingle Luncheon with the Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity
12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
The Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity invites the VCU community to a free lunch at the Larrick Student Center, Court End Ballroom B. Attendees can meet the director and coordinators, ask questions about the VCU Honor System and learn about the Honor Council. Lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

'First-Gen Fridays'
12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Strategic Enrollment Management presents "First-Gen Fridays" in the Honors College Multipurpose Room, for students, faculty and staff who will be or were the first in their family to graduate from college. "First-Gen Fridays" is an opportunity for first-generation college students to meet each other and faculty from around the university. Academic advisors will be in attendance and pizza will be provided.

VCU ASPiRE Blood Drive

VCU ASPiRE hosts a blood drive at West Grace Street Student Housing-South. Walk-ins are welcome. Donors will receive cookies from Red Eye Cookie Co. and Insomnia Cookies in addition to having a chance to enter a Lucky 13 raffle.
'The Fight for Intersex Human Rights in the 21st Century'

The Department of Sociology and the Humanities Research Center present "The Fight for Intersex Human Rights in the 21st Century" with Cary Costello, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology, and coordinator, LGBT program, University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 1105.
Wildlife Journal Club: First Meeting

The Wildlife Journal Club invites the VCU community to its weekly meeting in Cabell Library, Room 220f, to discuss a topic related to wildlife conservation.

VCU MEDLIFE holds an intensive, cardo-filled bootcamp with UFC Gym at Park Plaza (next to Cabell Library). Tickets are $5.
RHA Fall Fest
Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Residence Hall Association hosts the third annual Fall Festival on the University Student Commons Plaza. There will be a variety of free food, games, rides, a mechanical bull and pumpkin carving. Students should bring their student ID.
Emerson String Quartet

The Department of Music presents the Emerson String Quartet in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall, as part of the Mary Anne Rennolds Chamber Concert Series. Tickets are $35 for general admission; $32 for seniors (60+), VCU employees and VCU Alumni Association members; and $25 for children 16 and under.

TRIO Student Support Services presents "Money Mondays." This Monday's topic is "Financial Independence" and will be held in the University Student Commons, Metro Room. This interactive workshop will cover money management principles and the financial challenges facing an emerging generation. The session includes an in-depth look at effective cash flow, understanding student loans, and building a savings and investment plan that will carry over to life after VCU.
Family and Friends Education Program: Family Systems

Rams in Recovery and VCU MOTIVATE Clinic present a free, open session for those who have loved ones struggling with addiction at the Jackson Center, 501 N. 2nd St. This week, Adrienne Loker, LCSW, will discuss the ways in which families can manage their reactions to a loved one's substance use.
VCU ASPiRE Open House

Film Screening: 'Obit'

The Robertson School of Media and Culture presents a screening of "OBIT," a highly acclaimed film about the obituary desk at "The New York Times," in the University Student Commons Theater. Critics have called it one of 2017's best documentaries. After the screening, the film's director, Vanessa Gould, will Skype in to answer questions.

'Hot Topics from the Annual 2017 SOCRA Conference'

The Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research hosts the Central Virginia SoCRA Chapter Meeting, "Updates in Hot Topics from the Annual 2017 SoCRA Conference" in Critical Care Hospital, First Floor, Room 304. Participants will understand the impact of current ICH E6 (R2) changes and revisions; identify and discuss common FDA audit findings and how to avoid them; and understand current regulatory binder essentials and setup.
RISE/SMART Information Session

The National Scholarship Office holds a RISE/SMART information session in the School of Engineering East Hall, Room 2221. The RISE and SMART scholarships provide funding for undergraduates studying the sciences to pursue laboratory research. Attendees will learn more about the application process for each scholarship.
IRB Training: 'Data Security and Records Management in Research'
Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017 at 11 a.m.
The Office of Research Subject Protections holds a training in Tompkins-McCaw Library, Room 2-010, to discuss the management of records and data, such as the requirements for maintaining and discarding records, as well as methods and systems to best protect the confidentiality of research data. Fall Block Ticket Sales
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the National Panhellenic Council at VCU announce ticket sales for the 32nd annual Fall Block Step Show have begun. Tickets can be purchased at the Altria Theater box office or by visiting the website below. Ticket prices are $18 or $15 for students. The show is general admission.

VCU Rec Sports Adult Swim Lessons
VCU Rec Sports Aquatics offers adult swim lessons that allow beginner, intermediate and advanced swimmers to build on their skills. To participate at either the MCV Campus Aquatic Center or the Cary Street Gym Aquatic Center's swim lessons, register by Sunday, Oct. 22. Classes are $40 for students, $50 for members and $90 for non-members.
