VCUarts Department of Craft + Material Studies students present the annual "Tiny Shiny: Jewelry Exhibition + Sale" hosted by Quirk Gallery, 207 W. Broad St. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 15, from 6-9 p.m. The exhibition + sale encompasses exceptional handmade jewelry from faculty, graduate and undergraduate students from the Craft + Material Studies Department of VCUarts. The VCU community is invited to stop by Friday, March 16, or Saturday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saxophone Studio Recital

VCU Music presents a saxophone studio recital in the W.E. Singleton Center's Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. The performance will feature various saxophone ensembles comprised of VCU Music's saxophone students and faculty members, including Professor Albert Regni. The performers will showcase a wide variety of saxophones, including the sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass saxophones. Free admission.

Due to a last minute change in the event ambassador's schedule, the Global Education Office has canceled a "Conversation with His Excellency Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the United States" originally scheduled for Friday, Mar. 16. The office is working to reschedule this event for another date in the near future, and will update the VCU community as plans take shape.

Screening of Documentary Film 'The New Barbarianism'

The Department of Political Science hosts a screening of "The New Barbarianism" in the Temple Building, Room 1164. The new documentary examines the crisis of deliberate targeting of humanitarian workers during armed conflict, its causes, the limited international response, and possible ways forward through dozens of interviews and original footage obtained inside Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan. A discussion with the filmmakers will follow.

VCU Libraries hosts Kimberly Matthews, Ph.D., presenting her book, "The Richmond Crusade for Voters," in James Branch Cabell Library, Room 250. Matthews will discuss the vibrant history of the Richmond Crusade for Voters, an activist group founded in 1956 to oppose Massive Resistance and voter suppression, and what the organization means to Richmond. A book-signing will follow the talk.

In one of three events marking the addition of the 3 millionth volume to VCU Libraries' collections, the libraries present Dr. David X. Cifu, M.D. Ph.D., for "Rehabilitation After Traumatic Brain Injury," at the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences. This work is based on years of research and leading-edge practice in the treatment of traumatic brain injury, including current translation research conducted at VCU, and is a key addition to Tompkins-McCaw Library's Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) collection. RESCHEDULED : The Community Forum on Critical Issues in Black Richmond: Mental Health
Wednesday, Apr. 4, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
Due to the possibility of inclement weather, this event has been rescheduled to April 4 at the same time and location. The Department of African American Studies and the National Jericho Movement present the Community Forum on Critical Issues in Black Richmond, a seminar series devoted to critical discussions about Black life in Richmond and beyond, in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 1105. This month's topic is mental health. The discussion will be facilitated by Bri Maddox and Taneasha White, founders of the Black Minds Matter Project, an interdisciplinary effort that focuses on mental health in the age of #BlackLivesMatter.

2018-2019 Graduate School Mentorship Program Call for Applications
The Graduate School announces a call for applications to the 2018-2019 Graduate School Mentorship Program (GSMP). The GSMP matches undergraduate and graduate students in mentoring relationships in order to expose undergraduate students to the graduate experience as they consider further study and to provide graduate students with the opportunity to develop mentoring skills as they share their own personal experiences with the undergraduate students in the program. Students are matched based on areas of academic discipline and/or interest. Students interested in being matched with a specific student must both indicate this preference on their applications. In order to qualify, graduate students must be at least second-year and be in good academic standing. For undergraduates mentee applicants, preference is given to applicants going into their sophomore, junior or senior years. Undergraduates are expected to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout the duration of the program. Applications should be submitted by April 1 for the initial review. Applicants will be accepted by rolling admissions.
