The Department of Medicinal Chemistry presents "CPP-115 and Related Analogues: Novel GABA and Ornithine Aminotransferase Inactivators and Potential New Treatments for Epilepsy, Addiction, and Hepatocellular Carcinoma" as part of its spring seminar series in BioTech One, Founders Conference Room. The seminar will feature Richard B. Silverman, Patrick G. Ryan/Aon Professor, Department of Chemistry, Northwestern University; J. Doyle Smith/Larry Winter Seminar Series, Joint MedChem and Chemistry.

VCU Music presents The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet astonishes audiences worldwide with their range of expression, tonal spectrum and conceptual unity. Many listeners and critics agree that the ensemble has succeeded in virtually redefining the sound of the classic wind quintet. Tickets are $35 general admission; $32 seniors (60+), VCU employees and alumni; and $25 children.

Rampoint 2018
Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The HEMA Club at VCU holds its second annual national Historical European Martial Arts tournament in the Larrick Student Center, MCV Campus Recreation Center. Saturday will be a national Nordic league long sword tournament; winners will be eligible to compete in swordfish, the "Olympics of HEMA." Sunday will be the rookie tournament for new fighters from all over the East coast. Attendees will see historically accurate sword-fighting and listen to lectures on relevant historical topics. There will be no fee for spectators.
Black Awakening Choir: Black History Month Concert

The Black Awakening Choir at VCU presents its Black History Month Concert at 31st Street Baptist Church, 823 N. 31st St. Admission is free.

Central Virginia SoCRA Chapter Meeting

The Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research along with Massey Cancer Center present "The Role of the Investigational Drug Service (IDS) in the Management of Investigational Drugs" in Critical Care Hospital, First Floor, Room 304. Participants will 1.) understand the basic components of managing the accountability of investigational drugs; 2.) understand the regulatory framework that governs the management of investigational drugs; 3.) understand the role of the IDS in the management of investigational drugs.
'The Color of Recovery': Black History Month Recovery Panel
Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 from noon to 1 p.m.
Rams in Recovery (The Well) and the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs present "The Color of Recovery," featuring African American members of the recovery community at VCU in the University Student Commons, OMSA Office, Room 215. Attendees will hear perspectives on addressing stigma, holding multiple identities, the pain of addiction, and the joy and hope in recovery. Pizza and Recovery Roast Coffee will be served.

The Abstract Athlete Symposium

The VCU da Vinci Center presents the Abstract Athlete Symposium at the Bon Secours Redskins Training Facility, 2401 W. Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (April) Committee.
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is accepting committee members to serve on the Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (April) Committee. The purpose of the committee is to involve both faculty, staff and students in the planning process for the programs to ensure that OMSA as an office are being inclusive and representing those who identify with the population. Events include discussions, movie screenings, guest speakers and educational forums. All identities are welcomed.
Teach Youth at VCU
The Mary and Frances Youth Center's Discovery program is accepting class proposals for summer 2018 through Monday, Feb. 19. Discovery offers week-long career exploration classes focused on STEM, arts and health sciences for middle school youth from July 30 to Aug. 17. Faculty, staff and students are invited to apply and become instructors. Discovery also has internship opportunities available.

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program: Utah Spring Break Trip
The VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program offers spring break trip to Utah. Participants will explore canyons, hike in the desert, camp under the stars and look for ancient rock art. The adventure starts and ends in Las Vegas, Nevada; you get yourself there and VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program will take care of the rest. Price will be $495 for students and $595 for faculty/staff/members and includes food, transportation, permits, entry fees, and equipment, but DOES NOT cover airfare to or from the start.
