On Thursday, Aug. 3, VCU Police will conduct active shooter training exercises on the Monroe Park Campus between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The training consists of a simulated emergency inside the University Student Commons; exercises will be realistic, with simulated sounds inside of the building, including gunfire and crowd panic. This training gives police the opportunity to practice a coordinated response to a VCU building with local, state and federal law enforcement partners. VCU Community Health Education Center: Infertility Information Session
12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
The VCU Community Health Education Center hosts the first of two infertility information sessions at the center, VCU Medical Center, Gateway Building, Ground Floor. Nancy Durso, M.D., will speak on treatment options for infertility, such as ovulation medications, intrauterine insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Adobe/Software Forum: Update on Software Purchasing
Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Technology Services hosts an Adobe/Software Forum in Cabell Library, Room B-35. An update will be provided on Adobe educational discount purchases for departmental use. Other products such as Camtasia and SnagIt purchases will be reviewed. Those who use, manage or process software license orders are encouraged to attend. Opening Reception: 'Reach Out and Touch'
Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
VCUarts presents an opening reception for the 2017 alumni summer residency exhibition, "Reach Out and Touch," at The Anderson. "Reach Out and Touch" presents six recent VCUarts alumni in a group show that includes painting, sculpture, installation, performance, photography, digital media and film. The exhibition is on view from Aug. 4 through Oct. 6. The reception will include a special, live performance by Jon Dombroski

Cultural Competency and Language Classes
The Office of Continuing and Professional Education, in partnership with the School of World Studies, holds cultural competency and language classes for VCU and VCU Health employees and family members for one academic credit, beginning in late August through early December. Intro to Conversational Spanish I and II; Intro to Conversational German I; Intermediate German II; and Intermediate Italian II are available. Tuition waivers/education assistance may be available. Final Grading for Summer 2017
Grading for summer 2017 has begun. Grade sheets are available on faculty eServices. Grades are due by noon on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at which time grading will be turned off. Faculty may only access grade sheets for courses to which they have been assigned in the Class Schedule. If you do not see one of your grade sheets, contact your department's course scheduling representative.
Books Needed for Fall Library Book Sale
The 2017 Friends of VCU Libraries Book Sale, a partnership with the VCU Emerging Leaders Program, takes place Oct. 26-30, in the Cabell Library Lecture Hall. WISDM Mother's Room Supports Nursing Moms at Cabell Library
A new Mother’s Room at James Branch Cabell Library is open for use by nursing mothers for feeding babies or expressing milk. A public open house, honoring the donors who made the new lactation room possible, will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 4:30-7 p.m. All are welcome.

Henry Ford Entrepreneurship Academy: Aug. 7-9
The School of Business presents the Henry Ford Entrepreneurship Academy (HFEA) which will launch its first U.S.-based workshop in Richmond, Virginia, and will join the already established global HFEA community in the Middle East and Africa. Entrepreneurs with projects and ideas are invited to this workshop, and in turn, will be provided with tangible and practical tools to develop both the idea and the entrepreneur. Local Richmond entrepreneurs in the ideation stage or in early startup development who are looking to gain the skills and competencies necessary for entrepreneurial success are invited to join this 2.5-day program. It will be held Aug. 7-9, in Snead Hall, Room B3189. Registration cost for this program is $45 and includes a workbook, breakfast, lunch and parking.
