VCU Core Facility Expo / Supply Center Fall Vendor Show
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Office of Research and Innovation sponsors the VCU Core Facility Expo/Supply Center Fall Vendor Show in the Molecular Medicine Research Building. Attendees will meet the core directors, managers and staff from the various core facilities, in addition to the supply center vendors, who help support the VCU research community.
Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) Information Sessions
12 p.m.
The National Scholarship Office holds two information sessions for the Presidential Management Fellowships on Thursday, Oct. 19, at noon in Tompkins-McCaw Library, TML Lecture Room (2-010). The second session will be held in Cabell Library, Multipurpose Room (250). All graduate students of all disciplines are invited to attend. Eligible PMF candidates must be U.S. citizens or be eligible for U.S. citizenship during the two years of their fellowship.

The Black Awakening Choir at VCU presents its fall tour kickoff concert at Faith Community Baptist Church, 1903 Cool Lane, 23223. Free admission and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Anointed to Dance: 'L. I. T. for G. O. D.'
Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 at 04 p.m.
Anointed to Dance at VCU presents "L. I. T. for G. O. D.," an afternoon of dance and song, in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salon III. There will be performances by groups from all over the state as well as other VCU organizations. There will be free food, fun and fellowship. Anointed to Dance at VCU is comprised of student and staff at VCU.
Faculty Recital: Piano Trio
Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 at 3 p.m.
The Department of Music presents a Piano Trio Faculty Recital in the W.E. Singleton Center for Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. This piano trio features Jocelyn Adelman, violin, Dana McComb, cello, and Michelle Huang, piano. Admission is free.

'A True Wonder Woman and her Superhero Husband with ALS'
Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Jewish Life at VCU presents a talk by a modern-day wonder woman, Dina Hurwitz, at Chabad of Virginia, 212 N. Gaskins Rd. Hurwitz's husband, Yitzi, battles the devastating disease ALS, and she will share her powerful story of how she, her husband and their seven young children maintain a meaningful relationship despite Yitzi's condition. Scott Vota, D.O., chairman, Department of Neurology, VCU Health, will share about ALS and current medical advancements. The evening will feature music and elegant desserts.

'Lessons from the Opioid Epidemic: Health Care and Public Health'
Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The University College Common Book Program sponsors an interactive panel presentation and common book conversation with S. Hughes Melton, M.D., Virginia Department of Health Chief Deputy Commissioner; M. Norman Oliver, Deputy Commissioner for Population Health; and Tom Bannard, program director, Rams in Recovery, and certified alcohol drug counselor. The experts will focus on the opioid crisis in Virginia and its impact on public health and will discuss - what is the current approach to address this crisis in Virginia and what are the next steps moving forward? This discussion will take place in two locations - Academic Learning Commons, Room 4100, and the Kontos Medical Sciences Building Auditorium.
More Joy! Concert
Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
The College of Humanities and Sciences and the Department of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies hold a concert with the musical duo, More Joy!, in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 1104. The founders of the band will help attendees unpack their thoughts, lift their spirits through storytelling and celebrate their individual and collective strength. VCU alumna, Iris Harrell, and her partner, Ann Benson, will reveal their experiences of life's struggle and love as a long-term lesbian couple, and share songs of social justice.
Black Women in STEM: First General Body Meeting

Black Women in STEM holds its first general body meeting of the semester in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Room 1030J. Black Women in STEM is an organization devoted to increasing and recognizing diversity in STEM. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the organization and any upcoming events for the year. Refreshments will be provided.

Dinner and a Movie
Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Graduate and Professional Student Programming Board (GSPB) holds a movie night, featuring the comedy-fantasy "Beetlejuice," in the Larrick Student Center, Jackson Ward Room. Dinner will be provided to all guests. Participants will also enjoy a round of trivia about the movie and win prizes.

Fall Midterm Alert Grades: Available for 100/200 Level Courses
Students are encouraged to go to eServices to begin checking whether their professors submitted a Midterm Alert grade for one or more classes. Log on to Student eServices at http://www.eservices.vcu.edu. If you have received a Midterm Alert grade indicating unsatisfactory academic progress, see your instructor or academic advisor. The last day to withdraw from classes is Friday, Nov. 3.
Upcoming Winter Break Extends to Jan. 2
The Governor of Virginia has granted eight hours of additional leave on January 2, 2018. This extends VCU’s upcoming winter closing by one day. VCU’s 2017-18 winter closing is now Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017 through Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018. For the full schedule, visit the website below.

Important: Upcoming RamRide Impacts, Oct. 22-27
A major utilities project taking place on 11th Street between Broad and E. Marshall streets will impact RamRide routes from Sunday, Oct. 22, through Friday, Oct. 27. RamRide passengers should expect delays throughout the week due to increased traffic near these areas. Additionally, the Sanger Hall stop will close at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, and will re-open at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. During this closure, passengers should proceed to the alternate stops listed at http://go.vcu.edu/_hl4

2018 Grad Trip for Seniors
VCU Alumni encourages students graduating in 2018 to celebrate their graduation achievement by traveling through the heart of Europe. The classic Europe tour is a great way to celebrate, explore and learn about Europe. The tour is organized by AESU, which has more than 33 years of experience leading alumni travel programs.

Alumni Survey
VCU has contracted the Southeastern Institute of Research (SIR) to administer the first comprehensive all-alumni survey since 2009. Students graduating this December will receive a survey in their email next week. VCU wants to ensure that students have every opportunity to remain involved with the university after they graduate. Your opinion is important to the development of future alumni programs and communications from both your university and the alumni organization.

VCU Rec Sports OAP: Canoe Weekend in Dismal Swamp
VCU Rec Sports OAP offers a spooky Halloween canoe trip in the Great Dismal Swamp from Oct. 28-29. This will be a scenic paddle on calm water in one of Virginia's only natural lakes. Participants will spend the evening camping, cooking a big dinner in dutch ovens and sitting around the campfire. The cost is $44 for students or $50 for members. Price includes food, equipment and guides. Register by Tuesday, Oct. 24.
