'Meet the President'
1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Office of the President and the Presidential Student Ambassadors present "Meet the President" in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons. Attendees will meet President Michael Rao, hear from various departments and student groups, and participate in photos, raffles and giveaways. Refreshments will be provided.
Tompkins-McCaw Library Open House
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences invites all new and returning students to the MCV Campus for a visit and a tour. Participants will learn about VCU Libraries resources and services available, both in its building and electronically, meet staff, see demos of library databases and equipment, tour the facility and see collaborative spaces.

VCU Police: #StayWithTheHerd Meet-up
Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
When it comes to student safety, especially at night and during social events, VCU Police officers encourage all students to #StayWithTheHerd. Before classes begin, students can meet with officers who can answer all safety questions on the Compass from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 5-6 p.m. There will be free giveaways, food and chances to win prizes.
VCU Jazz Ensembles Auditions
Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at 12:30 p.m.
VCU Jazz holds ensembles auditions. Non-music major brass, saxes and upright bassists are especially encouraged to audition for the VCU big bands and/or combos for credit. Sign up sheets will be posted by Monday, Aug. 21, outside room 2014 of the James Black Music Center. Horns audition will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24, 12:30-5:30 p.m.; and bassists audition at selected hours between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28. Greater Richmond New Voice Club
Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at 6 p.m.
VCU Massey Cancer Center hosts the Greater Richmond New Voice Club in the Patient Resource Library on the second floor of Massey's Stony Point location, 9000 Stony Point Parkway. This group offers education and support for laryngectomees and their caregivers.
Student Organization and Volunteer Opportunities Fair
Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The University Student Commons and Activities presents the annual Student Organization and Volunteer Opportunities (SOVO) Fair in the University Student Commons. The SOVO Fair is an event where student organizations, VCU departments, sponsors and nonprofit agencies come together to showcase the various ways that students can get involved on campus and in the community. Over 500 student organizations and numerous community partners will be in attendance.
NAEA @ VCU Welcome Back Party
Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The National Art Education Association, VCU Student Chapter, holds its annual Welcome Back Party at the park between the Singleton Center and the James Black Music Center. Attendees will celebrate the new academic year with popsicles, art-making, and new and old friends alike.

Students Advocating Violence Education and Support (SAVES) invites students to anonymously submit questions about safe sex and sexual health and have the questions answered in a group discussion in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salon I.
19th Annual School of Medicine Faculty Excellence Awards Program
Wednesday, Sep. 27, 2017 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
VCU School of Medicine presents the annual Faculty Excellence Awards Program at the Kontos Medical Sciences Building. This program honors outstanding faculty in the areas of teaching, humanism in medicine, professional achievement of women in medicine, clinical excellence and leadership in graduate medical education. A luncheon reception will be held immediately after the program.

11th Annual HIGHER Ground Women's Leadership Conference: Registration Open
The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute holds the 11th Annual HIGHER Ground Women's Leadership Conference on Friday, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 N. 3rd St. This one-day event will explore the ways to envision, create and sustain personal and professional growth through the stories we tell and receive with others. To be transformational leaders, leaders must stay grounded in who they are as individuals while working to weave a collective narrative that honors the experiences of everyone.
