'First-Gen Fridays'

The Division of Strategic Enrollment Management presents "First-Gen Fridays" in Cabell Library, Room 303, for students, faculty and staff who will be or were the first in their family to graduate from college. "First-Gen Fridays" is an opportunity for first-generation college students, faculty and staff from around the university to connect. Those interested can join throughout the semester to network and to learn about relevant opportunities and resources designed to enhance student success.

Student Organization and Volunteer Opportunities Fair
3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The University Student Commons and Activities presents the annual Student Organization and Volunteer Opportunities (SOVO) Fair in the University Student Commons. The SOVO Fair is an event where student organizations, VCU departments, sponsors and nonprofit agencies come together to showcase the various ways that students can get involved on campus and in the community. Over 500 student organizations and numerous community partners will be in attendance.
'Blowout Bash'
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Chi Alpha @ VCU welcomes students back to campus with its "Blowout Bash" on the green space next to IHOP and in front of Noodles & Company. Attendees will enjoy a night of giant inflatables, prizes and giveaways, cotton candy and popcorn.

R.A.M.ifications A Cappella Auditions
Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017 at 5 p.m.
The R.A.M.ifications of VCU, an award-winning a cappella group, hosts auditions in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons III-IV. The group is seeking all voice parts, as well as beat-boxers. Those interested in auditioning should come prepared with a verse and chorus from a song of choice that best showcases your vocal abilities.

The Wellness Resource Center holds "Mindful Mondays" every Monday at noon during the semester at The Well's Recovery Clubhouse on the first floor (except on Labor Day). All students are welcome to come and meditate, but space is limited.

Muslim Students Association: First General Body Meeting

The Muslim Students Association holds its first general body meeting of the semester in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Room 1030J. This meeting will give both new and old members a chance to be briefed on the organization and its purpose, meet the new board/other members, and receive an overview of the upcoming events planned for the semester. Cabell Library Bus Stop Closures: Aug. 24-27
Due to multiple events impacting nearby traffic and street accessibility this week, the Cabell Library bus stop will be closed beginning at noon on Thursday, Aug. 24, through Sunday, Aug. 27. There will be no Express service on Thursday, Aug. 24, or Friday, Aug. 25. The Cabell bus stop is expected to reopen at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28; however, should accessibility improve, service may be provided sooner. Connector passengers should proceed to the Laurel and Main Street stop for service.

VCU Outdoor Adventure Program: Sea Kayaking Weekend
The VCU Outdoor Adventure Program offers a weekend of sea kayaking from Sept. 9-10. The student price will be $44 and member price will be $50. The price includes food, transportation, equipment and guides. Register online or in-person at the Outing Rental Center from Thursday, Aug. 24, to Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Want to love your body and live a balanced life?
Women students are invited to participate in a research study designed to promote appearance acceptance and healthy living. Participants will be asked to attend eight 1.5-hour groups designed to improve appearance satisfaction and teach skills for living well. All participants can receive up to $70 for attending three 1-hour assessments to complete interviews and surveys. All study activities will take place at The Well.
