'Financial Independence'
12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
TRIO Student Support Services presents "Money Mondays." This Monday's topic is "Financial Independence" and will be held in the University Student Commons, Alumni Board Room. This interactive workshop will cover money management principles and the financial challenges facing an emerging generation. The session includes an in-depth look at effective cash flow, understanding student loans, and building a savings and investment plan that will carry over to life after VCU.
'How to Obtain a Postdoc'

VCU Career Services and the Tompkins-McCaw Library present "How to Obtain a Postdoc" at Tompkins-McCaw Library, Room 2-010, as part of the VCU BEST Series. John Ryan, Ph.D., associate vice president for research development and head of the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars, as well as a number of successful postdocs will lead a panel discussion about what attendees need to do to choose the best postdoc for them.

'Disability Awareness Month Lunch and Learn: Jobs, Internships and Disabilities'

Career Services and Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity holds a lunch and learn in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms C-D, about job and internship opportunities available to students with any form of disability through the Workforce Recruitment Program and Anthem. Strategies and techniques to prepare for and keep your cool during the application and interview process. Lunch will be provided.

alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, Inc. at VCU presents a Krispy Kreme fundraiser on the Compass. All proceeds will benefit Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.
Screening of Documentary 'Oxyana'

University College's Common Book Program and the Division of Community Engagement present a screening of "Oxyana," about a town at the center of the opioid epidemic, in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 1104. Sikh Student Assocation Langar

The Sikh Student Association invites the VCU community to its biannual Langar event on the Commons Plaza. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the Sikh practice of Langar, or community kitchen. Students will also have the opportunity to enjoy free traditional Panjabi food and try on a Turban while learning more about the Sikh faith and interacting with members of the Sikh community at VCU.
Ghanaian Poet and Scholar -- Kofi Anyidoho

The Department of English invites the VCU community to Cabell Library, Third Floor Lecture Hall, to hear Ghanaian poet and scholar Kofi Anyidoho speak on African literature in memory of English Professor Emeritus Richard Priebe, who passed away on June 9. Anyidoho is Kwame Nkrumah Chair in African Studies at the University of Ghana. Free and open to the public.

Relationship Skills Classes on MCV and Monroe Park Campus
The Well at VCU hosts a six-week class to help students build skills to develop and maintain healthier relationships. A class for LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and other gender and sexual minorities) students will be offered on the MCV Campus. 'Our Mug, Your Design, #VCUInstaFamous'
VCUDine holds its annual Custom Coffee Mug Contest through Thursday, Oct. 5. The contest winner will have his or her design produced on hundreds of coffee mugs and sold all over campus, just in time for the holidays. The winner will also receive a $250 gift card to Barnes & Noble @ VCU and 50 free coffee refills at on-campus coffee locations. New Student Orientation Team: Call for Applications
New Student and Family Programs accepts applications for Student and Family Orientation Leaders for summer 2018. In order to be considered, applicants must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA and a satisfactory background check. In addition, Student Orientation Leader applicants must plan to return to VCU in fall 2018; Family Orientation Leader applicants may have plans to graduate prior to summer 2018. Outdoor Adventure Program: Backpacking and Yoga Weekend
The Outdoor Adventure Program offers a weekend hiking and camping trip in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western Virginia from Oct. 3-4. Participants will enjoy autumn's changing colors and cool weather, as well as pre- and post-hike yoga sessions. The cost is $44 for students and $50 for members and includes food, transportation, equipment and guides. Register by Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Outdoor Adventure Program: Day Canoe
The Outdoor Adventure Program holds a day canoe trip on Saturday, Oct. 7. Participants will be introduced to canoeing on a scenic stretch of local flatwater. Experienced trip leaders will teach strokes and packing techniques, while participants explore places where larger boats cannot go. The price is $15 for students and $20 for members and includes equipment, transportation and guides. Food is not included, so be sure to pack a lunch. This trip is geared for beginners who have little to no experience. Register by Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Palliative Care Symposium: Registration Deadline Extended
VCU, Bon Secours and HCA sponsor a Palliative Care Symposium on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Richmond, Virginia. The keynote presenter is Holly Holmes, M.D., University of Texas, on "Integrating Geriatrics and Palliative Care into the Cancer Care Continuum." Other topics include opioid use in geriatrics patients, home-based palliative care, anxiety, POST, perinatal palliative care, and the opiate crisis.
