Peace Corps Event: 'Girl Rising' Film Screening
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
VCU Globe and the Peace Corps host a film screening of "Girl Rising" in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Room 1030J. Attendees will enjoy a free screening of "Girl Rising," a documentary about the transformative power of education for girls around the world. Directed by Academy Award-nominated director, Richard E. Robbins, "Girl Rising" follows nine unforgettable girls living in the developing world who confront tremendous challenges and overcome nearly impossible odds to pursue their dreams.

Attorney General Mark Herring Visits VCU

Young Democrats at VCU hosts a visit from Mark Herring, attorney general of Virginia, in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Fireplace Lounge. Herring, who is running for re-election, will discuss his platform and answer pressing questions about today's political climate.

RISE/SMART Information Session
Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 at 2 p.m.
The National Scholarship Office holds a RISE/SMART information session in the School of Engineering East Hall, Room 2219. The RISE and SMART scholarships provide funding for undergraduates studying the sciences to pursue laboratory research. Attendees will learn more about the application process for each scholarship. A second information session will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. in the School of Engineering East Hall, Room 2221.

This workshop provides students with information on how to create a basic budget, including how to plan for living expenses, savings, paying back debt and incorporating personal values into the budgeting process. The Community Forum: Political Prisoners

The Department of African American Studies and the National Jericho Movement present the first meeting of the Community Forum on Critical Issues in Black Richmond in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 1201. This month's facilitator is Jihad Abdulmumit, chairperson of the Jericho Movement, an organization that advocates for the release of political prisoners in the United States. The event is free and open to the public.

Rec Sports OAP: Wilderness First Responder Training
Rec Sports and the Outdoor Adventure Program offer a Wilderness First Responder Training, a hands-on, in-depth, 72-hour course involving a comprehensive look at response and assessment, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental emergencies, survival skills, soft tissue injuries and medical emergencies. The WFR certification is good for two years and this course includes CPR. Register by Jan. 2, 2018. Course fee is $525.

Research Opportunity
Are you a woman in menopause experiencing anxiety? Would you like to talk about your experiences? Researchers at the VCU School of Nursing are interested in learning more about women’s health in menopause. Participation in this qualitative study would involve a face to face interview (approximately 1 hour) to discuss your personal experience with anxiety in menopause. The interview will be audio recorded and will take place at a location convenient to you. You will receive a gift card to a local business for participation in the study.
