Emerging Healthcare Leaders: 'A Healthcare Spelling Bee'
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Emerging Healthcare Leaders presents "A Healthcare Spelling Bee" in the University Student Commons Theater. Students will receive the opportunity to unite with other members, staff and faculty at VCU and learn about common medical terminology used during routine check-ups with physicians and dentists. The audience will receive the opportunity to earn prizes through interactive games. Appetizers, dinner and dessert will be provided during the event.
VCU Jazz Orchestra II in Concert

VCU Jazz Orchestra II, under the direction of Steven Cunningham, holds a concert in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. Music will include Quincy Jones, Neal Hefti, Sammy Nestico, Michael Mossman, Frank Foster, Oliver Nelson, Thad Jones and Vernon Duke. Fulbright UK Summer Institutes Information Session

The National Scholarship Office presents an information session about the Fulbright UK Summer Institutes in the Honors College, Multipurpose Room 1303. The summer institutes are intended for first- and second-year students with a GPA of 3.7 or above and fund a three to six week summer study abroad at one of seven universities across the U.K. Two more information sessions will also be offered in January.

University Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble

VCU Music presents a University Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert under the direction of David Niethamer in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. This concert will feature David Maslanka's Give Us This Day: Short Symphony for Wind Ensemble, Vincent Persichetti's Symphony No. 6 for Band, and works by Holsinger, Ives, Strommen, O’Toole, Walczyk, Zdechlik and Mahr. Tickets are $10 general admission and free for VCU students with ID.

VCU Dance presents 'The Salon': Feedback Appreciated

VCU Dance presents "The Salon" in the VCU Dance Depot Annex Studio, behind 814 W. Broad St. This event is free and open to the public. The informal dance showing includes new and in-progress student works in dance, including film and live-performance. Audience feedback on the work will be facilitated by visiting iCubed scholar MK Abadoo in the spirit of MacArthur "Genius" Liz Lerman's Critical Response process.

SEM: First-Generation Student Information Session

The Division of Strategic Enrollment Management presents a first-generation student information session in the University Student Commons, Forum Room. Attendees will learn the answers to questions, such as how to define first-generation; what it means to be a first-generation student; and how to get involved with first-generation students at VCU.
'What is Health Psychology?'

The health psychology graduate program in the Department of Psychology hosts a moderated question-and-answer panel in the White House, basement classroom. This event is sponsored by the APA Division 38 Society for Health Psychology. The panel members will share what led them to the field, what they currently do, how they prepared as an undergraduate student and to talk about health psych career options.
'Masters of Craft' with Richard Ocejo, Ph.D.

Alpha Kappa Delta, International Sociology Honor Society and the Department of Sociology present Richard Ocejo, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, discussing his new book, "Masters of Craft: Old Jobs in the New Urban Economy," at The Depot. Clarion Case Competition Interest Meeting

The Center for Interprofessional Education and Inter Health Professionals Alliance holds a Clarion case competition interest meeting in the W. The Clarion competition gives participants hands-on experience in a public health case while working with an interdisciplinary team of colleagues. VCU Recreational Sports OAP: Big Bend National Park Trip
The VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program hosts a seven-day canoe trip from Jan. 3-13 (plus travel days) down the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River in southern Texas. Participants will float through and hike inside canyons, find hot springs and stargaze. Registration is open and closed on Friday, Dec. 1. An interest meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Outing Rental Center.

Camp Kesem at VCU Counselor Applications
Camp Kesem, a national nonprofit that helps children through and beyond their parent's cancer, seeks student volunteers to apply to be counselors for the summer of 2018. Applications open on Friday, Dec. 1, and close on Friday, Jan. 5. The organization is seeking dedicated volunteers that can be silly when necessary. $265k in Scholarships Available: Applications Accepted
VCU Business Services is accepting applications for 14 academic scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year. Scholarships vary from $5,000 to $7,500 and are available to both undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarship applications can be found online at bsv.vcu.edu/scholarships and must be submitted by Thursday, Feb. 15, at 4:30 p.m.
