'The Love Myself Project'

The Graphic Design Department's junior project class group presents the Love Myself Project in the Compass, April 2-5. The VCU community can participate in a collaborative art piece while also learning about ways to accept and love yourself. All week there will be giveaways along with opportunities to make your physical mark on an art piece which will later be displayed in the Pollak Building.
Just In Time Career Fair

National Public Health Week kickoff: Seminar by Dr. Marissa Levine

The Division of Family Medicine and Population Health's Division of Epidemiology hosts Marissa Levine, MD, MPH, as the speaker to kick off National Public Health Week in One Capitol Square, 6th floor, room 644. Levine, commissioner of the Virginia Department of Health, will present "Virginia as the Healthiest State in the Nation: The Role of Public Health." Other National Public Health Week events include seminars by William Thornton, Dr. Gail Christopher and Ashley Harrell.

Asian and Pacific Islander Month Kickoff Reception with Dr. Archana Pathak

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs in collaboration with the Asian and Pacific Student Alliance hosts the annual Asian and Pacific Islander Month Kickoff event in the University Student Commons, OMSA office, Room 215. This event will feature Dr. Archana Pathak, a post-colonialist feminist scholar activist who examines issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, nationality and scientific imperialism from a social justice perspective.
'How to Create a Research Poster'
2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program will host a poster workshop session in Hibbs Hall, Room 327. The workshop will cover some of the technical aspects of poster creation from design to printing. The workshop will prepare undergrads to present their work at the Poster Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creativity taking place on campus April 25.

'How Drug Policy Can Teach Compassion and Empathy'

VCU's Rams in Recovery hosts Andrea Wright, resource task chair for the Rural Substance Abuse Awareness Coalition, at VCU's Motivate Clinic - Conference Room, 501 N. 2nd St., for an up-close description of what some have described as the “radical drug policy” of Portugal - where substance use and abuse is treated as a health issue rather than a criminal issue.

The COBE Connect Lunch features Dr. Abigail Conley, assistant professor of counseling education in VCU's School of Education, in the University Student Commons, Forum Room. Her talk, "Re-victimization and Resiliency: A Trauma-Informed Approach to Working with All Students" highlights the unique needs of students who come to college having experienced sexual assault, and shares ways that bystander intervention programs can focus on strengthening assets found to be protective factors against re-victimization. VCU Libraries' 3 millionth volume celebration features new book and remarks by Dr. David Cifu

In one of a trio of events marking the addition of the 3 millionth item to VCU Libraries' collection, the focus is on Dr. David X. Cifu, M.D. Ph.D., and "Rehabilitation After Traumatic Brain Injury." This seminal work is based on years of research and leading-edge practice in the treatment of traumatic brain injury, including current translational research conducted at VCU. This book is a key addition to Tompkins-McCaw's Traumatic Brain Injury collection. Cifu will give brief remarks.

2018 African-American Alumni Council Mentoring Circle Mocktail Party

The START-Play Research Study on Infants with Motor Delays at VCU’s Physical Therapy Department
The START-Play Research Program is comparing a new physical therapy to usual community care. START-Play targets motor skills and thinking. We assign your baby to START-Play or usual care group. Researchers will visit 5 times over 1 year and record your baby’s skills, toy play and parent-infant play. Eligibility: baby must be 7-16 months (adjusted for prematurity), have motor delays and can sit propped for 3+ seconds, but can’t get in/out of sitting.

VCU Recreational Sports Canoe Day Trip at Dutch Gap. This day out on Dutch Gap learning about conservation, paddling the tidal lagoon and exploring the boat graveyard. Price includes transportation, equipment and guides. This trip will take place on April 15; registration ends on April 10.

Volunteers Needed for a Major Depression Study
You may be able to take part in this Study if: l You are between 18 and 75 years of age l You have been diagnosed with major depression that is considered moderate to severe l You currently have depression that has lasted 2–18 months l You have experienced at least two previous episodes of depression If you are eligible for the study you will receive an FDA-approved medication for depression for up to 16 weeks. You will be compensated for your time and travel.
