Women of color have historically had the lowest participation rate of any demographic group in scientific and technical fields. Herrera's forthcoming book studies the work of female artists of the Nuyorican Poets Café, and is one of the organizers of "Nuestras Historias: Latinos in Richmond," a current exhibition at The Valentine.
