Global Café

The Global Education Office invites all members of the university community to its monthly Global Café in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms A-D. Attendees will experience a variety of cuisines and cultures from around the world. This student-centered program is designed to increase awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity at VCU. VCU Symphonic Wind Ensemble

The Department of Music presents a VCU Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. This performance will be conducted by David Niethamer, and will include works by Charles Ives, William Schuman, David Maslanka and John Philip Sousa. Tickets are $10 general admission and free for VCU students with ID.

VCU Homecoming: Ram Fest Ticket Sales
Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at 10 a.m.
Tickets for VCU Homecoming's RamFest with performers Tory Lanez, featuring Shy Glizzy and 24 HRS, go on sale starting October 3 at 10 a.m. and end October 6 at 5 p.m. at the Altria Theater Box Office. They are also sold online through Ticketmaster and at the Richmond Coliseum Sweet Frog Box Office starting October 9. Tickets are $25 for students with a VCU ID, who may purchase up to two tickets for this event. Tickets are $35 for the public. All tickets are general admission.

The Richmond Potluck & Puerto Rico Benefit
Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Anderson at VCU and The Richmond Cookbook project present the Richmond Potluck, a citywide potluck and benefit show for Puerto Rico relief. The potluck will feature homemade food from residents throughout the city, live art and musical performances, an open mic led by local poets and an art sale by VCUarts students and local artists to raise money for Puerto Rico. The Anderson will serve as a drop-off location for donations for Puerto Rico relief from September 29 - October 9.

Film Screening: 'Sleepless In America'

VCU Libraries and University Student Commons and Activities invite the VCU community to a film screening and discussion of "Sleepless in America" in the Hunton Student Center, TML Learning Center, Room 209. The film is a documentary exposing the crucial need for sleep and the shocking life-threatening consequences of its absence. Attendees are encouraged to bring lunch. Following the film screening, a discussion will be facilitated by Cecelia Valrie, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Psychology.

Rec Sports Lifeguard Certification
VCU Rec Sports offers a Lifeguard Certification Course at the Cary Street Gym on Friday/Saturday/Sunday, 10/6-10/8 & 10/13-10/15. The cost will be $100 for students and $175 for members. Postconcussion Syndrome Study
If you are age 21 or over, and have a diagnosis of Postconcussion syndrome, you may qualify to participate in a research study conducted in the Richmond, Va. area. Participants of this study will be asked to meet two times in a private area to protect confidentiality. Once to meet with the student investigator to complete four sets of questionnaires and receive a kit for collection of a sample of saliva for purposes of measuring a stress biomarker. A second shorter meeting will be required to pick up the sample of saliva. Compensation is available at completion of the study. VCU Rec Sports OAP Day River SUP
Head to the James River with knowledgeable instructors from the VCU OAP to learn the basics of stability, balance and maneuvering on a stand up paddle board. Pack a lunch, as food is not included. Cost is $15 for students and $20 for members $20. Register by October 10.
