The Department of English sponsors a brown bag event featuring Jennifer S. Rhee, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of English, discussing "Drone Warfare and Drone Art: Labor and Dehumanization in the Robotic Imaginary" in Hibbs Hall, Room 308. Rhee will present germinal research from her forthcoming book, tracing connections between the U.S. robotics technologies and cultural forms at the site of dehumanization and devalued labor. Rhee argues that the figure of the robot in contemporary culture and technology is largely shaped by the conceptions of the human, and more importantly of the dehumanized. Try Transit Week is a week-long, educational event designed to encourage Virginians to try a form of public transportation such as bus, rail, vanpool or ferry. Parking and Transportation, in partnership with Ridefinders, will host a table in the University Student Commons on Monday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., to provide additional information. Visitors can register to win a 30-day transit pass.
