VCU Alumni presents Class Giving Week from Nov. 13-15. Students can stop by the University Student Commons from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or the Cary Street Gym from 4-6 p.m. to learn how to commemorate the Class of 2017 and give students following in their footsteps the best chance of success.
'Proximity Ligation Assays: A Powerful Technique to Detect Protein-Protein Interactions and Histone Modifications'

Tompkins-McCaw Libray for the Health Sciences, the Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research and the VCU Postdoctoral Association present "Proximity Ligation Assays: A Powerful Technique to Detect Protein-Protein Interactions and Histone Modifications" with Salvador Sierra San Nicolas, M.D., Ph.D., in Tompkins-McCaw Library, Room 2-010. Attendees will learn about this assay that demonstrates the proximity of various proteins, including G Protein-Coupled Receptors, in cells and native tissue. Nonprofit Speaker Series

VCU Political Science presents a nonprofit speaker series in Harris Hall, Room 2117, for those interested in nonprofit budgeting, financial statements, and careers in the nonprofit sector. Attendees will meet with special speaker Dan Kearns, chief financial officer, United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg. This event is open to the public.
Department of Graphic Design: Silas Munro: Du Bois + Data Visualization

The Department of Graphic Design's Objects + Methods Lecture Series presents Silas Munro: Du Bois + Data Visualization in the Pollak Building, Room 315. Munro's research addresses the relationship between the designer's personal identity, formal systems and strategies s/he utilizes, and how both interact with the communities s/he serves. He is particularly interested in the often unaddressed post-colonial relationship between design and marginalized communities.
'Trans Lives Matter'

The Wellness Resource Center and SAVES present "Trans Lives Matter" panel discussion in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons III-IV. The panel discussion will feature members of the Trans and Gender Non-Conforming communities, celebrating their lives and discussing issues that the communities face. Community Art Therapy Workshop
5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Post-Baccalaureate PRe-Health Sciences Club at VCU hosts a community art therapy workshop at The Depot. The workshop will be guided by Leila Saadeh, certified art therapist, and is conducted in partnership with Daily Planet Health Services. Attendees can relax, make a project, and learn about the power of art therapy in mental health care.

Cyberlibertarian foundations structure public and academic debates around issues such as surveillance, open source, open access, bitcoin, blockchain, "internet freedom," "net neutrality," online anonymity, and encryption, via canned revisionist accounts of history that advance the project of universal computerization.

International Education Week Film Screening: 'Rabbit-Proof Fence'

In celebration of International Education Week, the Global Education Office presents "Rabbit-Proof Fence," the last in a three-part film series, in the University Student Commons Theater. Based on a true story, this film follows the journey of three young Aboriginal "half-caste" girls who were forcibly removed from their families by Australian government officials in 1931 to be trained for positions of servitude. The screening will be followed by discussion.

VCUDine presents its first-ever "Ramsgiving" in Shafer Court Dining Center, Market 810. The Well offers "Healthy Love Quickies," a series of one-hour sessions packed with activities that help participants build and maintain healthier relationships, in the Kontos Medical Sciences Building, Room 104. Sessions are condensed and adapted from "The Relationship Skills Class" for LGBTQIA+ students, a six-week class offered on the Monroe Park Campus. Students are encouraged to attend all three sessions on Nov. 20, Nov. 27 and Dec. 4, but this is not a requirement. Food will be provided to those who register by Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Research Participants Invited: The Impact of Inflammation on Cellular Aging
The Kinesiology and Health Science Department at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking healthy male and female participants between 40 and 64 years old with a body mass index (BMI) associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease or a BMI greater than or equal to 30.0 (assessed by the research staff). Eligible participants will receive a free health and body composition assessment from a BodPod test, and will be entered for a chance to with an Amazon gift card.
