Red Cross at VCU: Blood Drive
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Red Cross Club at VCU hosts a blood drive at Cary Street Gym. Walk-in are welcome and appointments can be scheduled by visiting the website below. Donors must be over 110 pounds and must not have lived outside the country for three or more years. Donors should bring two forms of identification.

'Pumpkins and Pastries'
3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The College of Humanities and Sciences Leadership Council presents "Pumpkins and Pastries" on the University Student Commons Plaza to get the VCU community into the fall spirit. Attendees will enjoy pumpkin carving and free baked goods, as well as having the opportunity to learn how to get involved with the council this year. Pumpkins will be $5 via credit or Venmo.
Visiting Artist Talk: Elle Pérez
3 p.m.
The Graduate Arts Association hosts Elle Pérez in the Fine Arts Building, Third Floor Fishbowl. Pérez’s photographic practice explores the erotics of underground communities and marginal spaces and identities. Pérez holds degrees from the Maryland Institute College of Art and Yale School of Art. Originally from the Bronx, New York, Pérez currently teaches photography at Harvard University, the Rhode Island School of Design, and is a dean at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
CCM Haunted House
8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Catholic Campus Ministry holds its fourth annual Haunted House at 823 Cathedral Place. Attendees will journey through the mind of a twisted scientist and encounter the results of his mad experiments. The cost for entry is $2 or a canned good. All proceeds will benefit RamPantry. There will be a free bonfire with s'mores at the end of the haunted house. All are welcome.

October Model UN Mock Conference
Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Model United Nations and VCU Political Science holds a mock conference in West Grace Street Student Housing-South, Room 1004H. There will be a discussion on nuclear missile launches from North Korea and its effects on the global community. Admission is free and open to all.
Film Screening: 'Toward a Black Psychology: Origin and Evolution of a Discipline'
Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.
The Department of African American Studies presents a screening of "Toward a Black Psychology: Origin and Evolution of a Discipline" at Grace Street Theater. The documentary, which explores the history and significance of the field of black psychology, is directed by Shawn Utsey, Ph.D., interim chair, Department of African American Studies. There will be a discussion following the film. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the film will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Robinson Guitar Duo
Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017 at 4 p.m.
The Department of Music presents the Robinson Guitar Duo in the W.E. Singleton Center for Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. Over the past 19 years, the Robinson Guitar Duo has performed extensively with the Latin Ballet of Virginia, as well as at the first Alexandria Guitar Festival, The Gellman Room, Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center and Center Stage. The Department of Music's Percussion Ensemble presents its fall concert in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall, featuring special guest Blake Tyson, professor of percussion, University of Central Arkansas. This concert will feature the premiere of Tyson's new work, "The Surface of the Sky," written in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of de-segregation of Little Rock High School. Admission is free.

VCU Police: Eighth Annual Chili Cook-Off

VCU Police holds its eighth annual chili cook-off at Rodney's Place in Shafer Court Dining Center. To register for free as a chef, use the contact information below. A $5 donation is asked of attendees who want to sample chili and get a piping hot bowl of their favorite recipe. All proceeds will benefit FRIENDS Association for Children in Richmond. 2018 HIGHER Ground Women’s Leadership Development Program: Accepting Applications
The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs accepts applications for its HIGHER Ground Women’s Leadership Development Program. The HIGHER Ground Women’s Leadership Development Program is a five-month leadership development experience for current and emerging women leaders who are committed to investing in themselves and their organizations. Call for Spring 2018 Survey Content
Spit for Science is a longitudinal study of college behavioral and emotional health, with questionnaires administered to all participants each spring (>10,000 students currently enrolled). Faculty members and trainees with interests in college behavioral and emotional health outcomes can submit items for consideration for inclusion in the upcoming spring surveys. Submission guidelines are available at www.spit4science.vcu.edu. All submissions must be received by Sunday, Nov. 5.

VCU Globe: Accepting Applications for Faculty Fellows
VCU Globe is accepting applications for the Faculty Fellows Program. Applications from faculty in a wide variety of academic disciplines are encouraged. Eligible applicants hold full-time appointments in their disciplines, work as adjunct faculty at VCU or represent a Richmond-area community partner. Fellows teach an upper-level 3-credit seminar/elective course to VCU Globe students. Deadline to apply is Jan. 26, 2018.

Deadline Extended: Great American Indian Exposition (Pow-Wow)
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs sponsors a fall cultural excursion to the Great American Indian Exposition, also known as the Richmond Pow-Wow, on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Richmond International Raceway Complex, 600 E. Laburnum Ave. The pow-wow features the best in Native American arts, crafts, food, dance, drumming and education. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Nov. 1. Transportation will be provided and admission is covered.
