Jones traces the "sigh" or emission of deep, audible breath expressing racial exhaustion, and the recurring motif of hanging/suspension in Claudia Rankine's "Citizen: An American Lyric." Jones situates "Citizen" alongside a reading of Eric Garner's death and the subsequent protests. His invocation of "I Can't Breathe," as in Rankine, illustrates the reality of living in a "psychic chokehold."

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs presents "Hump Day Dialogues on Tour" featuring Guadalupe Ramirez in the University Student Commons, OMSA Office. Ramirez will raise awareness to reduce the chances of continued violence against Indigenous people. Ramirez was born in Tejutla, San Marcos, Guatemala. She wanted to become a teacher but was forced to flee school when Guatemalan military disappeared a number of her associates.
