Sikh Student Assocation Langar
12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Sikh Student Association invites the VCU community to its biannual Langar event on the Commons Plaza. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the Sikh practice of Langar, or community kitchen. Students will also have the opportunity to enjoy free traditional Panjabi food and try on a Turban while learning more about the Sikh faith and interacting with members of the Sikh community at VCU.
Fall 2017 Biostatistics Seminar Series

The Department of Biostatistics, VCU School of Medicine, presents speaker Jianwen Cai, Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor, Department of Biostatistics, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, to present "Variable Selection for Case-Cohort Studies with Failure Time Outcome" at One Capitol Square, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 830 East Main St., Richmond, VA.

New Van Gogh controversy: 65 new works found?

Dr. Cliff Edwards of the Religious Studies program presents on the discovery of previously unknown studies by Vincent Van Gogh in the Powell-Edwards Lounge, 14 N. Laurel St., 2nd floor. Learn more about membership and future events of the Religious Studies Society at VCU after the lecture.
SMC Talks: PR/Marketing
2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The VCU Student Media Center presents SMC Talks: PR/Marketing in Hibbs Room 303. Dave Dykes, a public relations professional at Sage Communications in Tyson's Corner specializing in media relations and copy-writing, will present a talk about public relations and marketing, including event planning and social media, for publications.
The Richmond Potluck & Puerto Rico Benefit
5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Anderson at VCU and The Richmond Cookbook project present the Richmond Potluck, a citywide potluck and benefit show for Puerto Rico relief. The potluck will feature homemade food from residents throughout the city, live art and musical performances, an open mic led by local poets and an art sale by VCUarts students and local artists to raise money for Puerto Rico. The Anderson will serve as a drop-off location for donations for Puerto Rico relief from September 29 - October 9.
Night of Worship
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Richmond Chi Alpha and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship host a night of worship in Harris Hall, Room 101. Open to all students of all beliefs and faith backgrounds.

Ghanaian Poet and Scholar -- Kofi Anyidoho
Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at 3 p.m.
The Department of English invites the VCU community to Cabell Library, Third Floor Lecture Hall, to hear Ghanaian poet and scholar Kofi Anyidoho speak on African literature in memory of English Professor Emeritus Richard Priebe, who passed away on June 9. Anyidoho is Kwame Nkrumah Chair in African Studies at the University of Ghana. Free and open to the public.

Faculty Recital: Sonia Vlahcevic, Piano
Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 at 4 p.m.
The Department of Music presents Sonia Vlahcevic's faculty recital in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. This recital will feature music from Igor Stravinsky, George Crumb and John Cage, and will include performances by a variety of VCU Music faculty members. Free and open to the public.

The Bangladeshi Student Organization at VCU holds its first general body meeting of the semester in the University Student Commons, Forum Room, for students to meet the executive board and learn more about the organization and its upcoming plans for the year. Rec Sports Outdoor Adventure Program: Day River Stand-Up Paddle Boarding
The Outdoor Adventure Program offers river stand-up paddle board day trips for participants to learn the basics of stability, balance and maneuvering on a stand-up paddle board. Participants will discover why this sport is taking off in popularity amongst surfers, fisherman and recreational paddlers around the world. The cost is $15 for students and $20 for members.
