'Thank a Donor Day': MCV Campus
10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Offices of Donor Relations, Annual Giving and Communications present "Thank a Donor Day" on the MCV Campus Compass, outside of the Larrick Student Center. The health campus is invited to join as students write notes, make signs and film video tributes to donors. Cookies, coffee and swag will be provided.
Science, Technology and Society Program: 'Ignorance, Uncertainty, Doubt and Failure: Why Science Is So Successful'

The Science, Technology and Society Program and Life Sciences welcome Stuart Firestein, Columbia University, to discuss "Ignorance, Uncertainty, Doubt and Failure: Why Science Is So Successful" in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons I-II. This is a part of the STS Program's 2017 Speaker Series, "Science Fact, Science Fiction." Admission is free and all are welcome.

'Careers in the Commons: Future Housing Leaders and National Urban League'
2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
VCU Career Services presents "Careers in the Commons" with Future Housing Leaders and National Urban League in the University Student Commons. The employer will be sharing information about career opportunities with the National Urban League. Open to all students.
VCU Globe Open House
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
VCU Globe hosts an open house in West Grace Street Student Housing-North. Attendees will learn about the program and questions answered by Globe staff. Applications are accepted and the priority deadline is Friday, Nov. 3.

'Drive Away Happy: Tips for Buying a Car'

The Graduate and Professional Student Programming Board holds an informational workshop on car buying in the Hunton Student Center, First Floor Conference Room. Speakers from the Virginia Credit Union will discuss the steps to purchasing a car from start to finish. Free lunch will be provided to all guests. Space is limited and is first-come, first-serve.
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences: 'Fall Fest 2017'
Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 from noon to 2 p.m.
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences presents "Fall Fest 2017" in the 500 Academic Center Lobby. All exercise science and health science students are invited to join and learn more about the program, professors and other opportunities available for HPEX students such as study abroad and student clubs.

VCU Advising holds a session in the University Student Commons, Forum Room, to introduce the VCU community to a new tool academic and career advisors across VCU will use to assist students with creating a strategic plan for completing their degree, building cultural competence, connecting to the community and developing real experience in a chosen career path. Attendees will hear how VCU is using "Major Maps" to help student achieve their academic goals and to build a successful future.

VCU's English Honor Society presents a free screening of Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Henry V' in Hibbs Hall, Room 403. "Magnificent, passionate and steeped in powerful emotion" ("The Washington Post"), "Henry V" is a "stunning," (Leonard Maltin) Oscar-nominated adventure that takes its place amongst the greatest war films of all time."

Library Book Sale Opens Oct. 26

The annual Friends of VCU Libraries book sale opens on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Cabell Library Lecture Hall, for a Friends member preview. Those that are not members can join at the door for $100. The sale will open to the general public at noon.

'VCU BEST Series: Tell Your Science as a Story'

VCU Career Services and the Center on Health Disparities Research present "How to Tell Your Science as a Story" in the Tompkins-McCaw Library, Room 2-010. Attendees will listen to graduate students share experiences telling the story of their journey through the scientific world and learn how to get others, especially those outside of the field, excited about your work and what you bring to the table.

'Condoms and Candy Kiosk'

The Wellness Resource Center presents the "Condoms and Candy Kiosk" in front of The Well. Participants can swing by to pick up goody bags of condoms and candy, participate in condom demonstrations, and have conversations about safer sex.
Information Session: Peace Corps 'Voices from the Field'

VCU Career Services and the Peace Corps present "Voices from the Field" in the University Student Commons, Alumni Board Room. Attendees will hear from a VCU alumni Peace Corps volunteer currently at work around the world and learn more about what it's like to be a Peace Corps member day-to-day. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions about service, learn steps to take to improve chances and gain valuable tips to guide them through the application process.

'The People's Debate: Tackling State and National Issues with Your Questions'

The Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs holds a discussion on issues facing the state and nation today at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts. L. Douglas Wilder, 66th Governor of Virginia, and Robert D. Holsworth, Ph.D., noted political analyst, will lead the discussion. 'Mini-Medical Family Day'
Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
University Student Commons and Activities: MCV Campus programs invites the VCU community and their families to a big event filled with mini-medical fun at the Larrick Student Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with physicians to help reduce anxiety during doctors visits, participate in health screenings and enjoy health-related activity stations for all ages. Healthy snacks and giveaways will be provided. Rodney the Ram and other special guests will be in attendance.

Caps, Gowns and Hoods for December Commencement
December Commencement exercises take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, in the E.J. Wade Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. Students participating in the ceremony must wear caps, gowns and hoods. Academic regalia is available for purchase at the Barnes & Noble @ VCU beginning Tuesday, Oct. 10, on the Monroe Park and MCV campuses. Those unable to visit a campus store may order online at vcu.shopoakhalli.com beginning Thursday, Oct. 12. The last day to order online is Sunday, Nov. 26. Caps and gowns will not be available for purchase at the Commencement ceremony.
