VCU Police: Eighth Annual Chili Cook-Off
12 p.m.
VCU Police holds its eighth annual chili cook-off at Rodney's Place in Shafer Court Dining Center. To register for free as a chef, use the contact information below. A $5 donation is asked of attendees who want to sample chili and get a piping hot bowl of their favorite recipe. All proceeds will benefit FRIENDS Association for Children in Richmond. There will be a first, second and third place winner along with a Taster's Favorite.

English Faculty Forum: John Glover, 'Aesthetic Experiments: H.P. Lovecraft and 'Pickman's Model' in 1927'

VCU English sponsors a lecture in Hibbs Hall, Room 308, by John T. Glover, humanities reference librarian and affiliated English faculty. Glover will cover aspects of Lovecraft's aesthetics from 1925-1927. Lovecraft returned to Providence from New York, transitioned from one literary style to another, and wrote the short story "Pickman's Model" and the essay "Supernatural Horror in Literature," grappling with the elevation of simple horror to ‘weird fiction.’" All are welcome. Attendees are invited to bring lunch.

Celebrate National First-Generation College Students Day

'The Many Aspects of Chaos: Math Colloquium'

The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics welcomes Jim Yorke, University of Maryland, who will give a talk on "The Many Aspects of Chaos" in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 2100. Yorke coined the word "chaos" in a famous 1975 paper and is known to be a great speaker. This event is free and open to the public.

Film Screening: 'Age of Champions'

VCU Libraries and University Student Commons and Activities invite the VCU community to bring lunch to a film screening and discussion of "Age of Champions" in the Hunton Student Center, TML Learning Center, Room 209. This documentary takes an inspiring look at competitors who triumph over the limitations of age and sprint, leap and swim for gold at the National Senior Olympics. Following the film screening, discussion will be facilitated by gerontology graduate student Annie Rhodes.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, there will be numerous street closures within the downtown area for the Richmond Marathon. Due to limited accessibility, RamSafe will stop taking calls at 3 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, and will reopen at 5 p.m. that day. RamRide will not be in service until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, and will run until 12 a.m. The VCU community is encouraged to incorporate additional time in their commute to account for delays, and utilize the "RamRide" tracker when possible, via the website below.

Research Opportunity
Are you a woman in menopause experiencing anxiety? Would you like to talk about your experiences? Researchers at the VCU School of Nursing are interested in learning more about women’s health in menopause. Participation in this qualitative study would involve a face to face interview (approximately 1 hour) to discuss your personal experience with anxiety in menopause. The interview will be audio recorded and will take place at a location convenient to you. You will receive a gift card to a local business for participation in the study.
