The VCU Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry and Innovation (iCubed) holds a "My Life, My Scholarship" symposium series every Wednesday at the Barnes & Noble @ VCU Cafe. Attendees will listen as VCU iCubed faculty authentically share how their lived experiences have shaped scholarship and academic pursuits. Elvin Price, Pharm.D., Ph.D., will share how his particular lived experiences have shaped his interest in fighting cardiometabolic diseases and educating the next generation of health care practitioners and scientists. Catholic Graduate Student Organization: Luncheon Meeting

The Catholic Graduate Student Organization holds its next luncheon meeting in the McGlothlin Medical Education Center, Room 6-101. Dan Markley, D.O., infectious diseases consultant and associate hospital epidemiologist, Richmond VA Medical Center, will present "A Catholic Approach to End of Life Care." This complex issue requires a bioethical position to keep "dying well" from becoming mercy killing or stealth euthanasia. Markley will review the current date of palliative care and hospice medicine. GenED30 Town Hall

The GenEd Task Force presents the proposed framework for the new 30-credit general education requirement in the University Student Commons Theater. The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes with an opportunity for questions and feedback. Feedback will be accepted at the town hall meetings and at the website below. Give Kids A Smile Day at VCU Dental Care
Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
VCU Dental Care's Pediatric Practice offers free services at the Lyons Dental Building, 520 N. 12th St., to children in need of dental care who do not have dental insurance on Give Kids a Smile Day. Pediatric dental specialists provide exams, cleanings, X-rays, fillings, extractions and minor restorations for children ages 0-18 years old. Give Kids a Smile Day, created by the American Dental Association, is an annual focus of National Children's Dental Health Month and is observed every year during the month of February. The program was designed to provide education, preventative and restorative oral health care for children. To schedule an appointment, call the number below. Walk-ins are welcome, however, are not guaranteed to be seen. Appointments are highly encouraged.

'Hump Day Dialogue: African American Male Retention through Ph.D. Programs'

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs hosts a Black History Month feature for its "Hump Day Dialogue" featuring Kimberly Matthews, Ph.D., VCU LEAD professor, as the keynote speaker discussing "African American Male Retention through Ph.D. Programs" in the University Student Commons, OMSA Office, Room 215. "Hump Day Dialogues" are interactive presentations that educate students and staff members on the importance of diversity and inclusion. The content of these presentations are educational and informative and help develop students into better global citizens.

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program: Day Caving Trips
The VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program offers two day caving trips during February. Participants will spend the day below the surface of the earth at a constant 55 degrees Fahrenheit, making for a great adventure, whatever the weather above ground. Experienced leaders will lead participants through vast caverns and teach about cave formations in Western Virginia. Be sure to pack a lunch, as food is not included. Trips will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3 and Sunday, Feb. 18.

Request for Applications for the Commonwealth of Virginia's Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Research Award Fund
VCU's Virginia Center on Aging is accepting grant applications through March 1, for the Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Research Award Fund. Applicants must be affiliated with colleges or universities, research institutes, or other not-for-profit organizations located in Virginia. Awards are limited to $45,000 each. A non-binding letter of intent is required by Friday, Feb. 2 (http://go.vcu.edu/ardraf-loi). By Friday, Feb. 9, approved applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal. Application forms, guidelines and further information about preparing the letter of intent are available at the website below.

Black History in the Making: Nominations Accepted
The Department of African American Studies invites departments and units to participate in the Black History in the Making award. The award recognizes the achievements of exceptional African American students. Each department is responsible for introducing their recipient at the ceremony and providing a small gift (of the department's choosing) for the recipient. The deadline to select recipients and notify the Department of African American Studies of intent to participate is Monday, Feb. 19.
