'First-Gen Fridays'
12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Strategic Enrollment Management presents "First-Gen Fridays" in the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballroom A, for students, faculty and staff who will be or were the first in their family to graduate from college. "First-Gen Fridays" is for first-generation college students to meet each other and faculty from around the university. The brief topic this month is VCU Summer Studies. Pizza will be provided.

Spring 2018 VCU Biostatistics Seminar Series

Shafer Food Court Photography Shoot
12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Photography Club at VCU holds a food-photography shoot and challenge at the Shafer Dining Court. Participants will practice and learn food and product photography, and compete with others to achieve the most delicious-looking pictures for a gift card prize. Non-meal plan holders will receive guest swipes from club officers. No experience necessary; non-members are welcome.
SAVES Training Part Two
5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Students Advocating Violence Education and Support (SAVES) holds part two of its training for those interested in the University Student Commons, Alumni Board Room. Participants who attend both part one and two of the trainings will become fully-trained members of SAVES. Trained members will be able to engage in all aspects of SAVES volunteer work including community education through public presentations. SAVES is a peer education group on campus speaking and raising awareness on the topics of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking.
'Jazz 4 Justice'
8 p.m.
VCU Music and the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation present the fourth annual "Jazz 4 Justice" in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. Proceeds from this benefit concert directly support pro bono legal representation for low income individuals and families, veterans and nonprofits in central Virginia, as well as scholarships for students in the VCU Jazz Studies program. Generation Dream 2018

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and Richmond Peace Education sponsors Generation Dream at the Grace Street Theater, which offers the opportunity for a diverse cast of talented young people to make their voices heard during Black History Month. Through Generation Dream 2018, talented youth and supporting adult artists will perform original poems, music and dance pieces to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

TRIO Student Support Services, in collaboration with Virginia Credit Union, presents "Money Mondays: Strategies for Eliminating Debt" in the University Student Commons, Forum Room. A representative from Virginia Credit Union will discuss how to reduce debt through specific examples and strategies.
'Kleenex of Kindness'
Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
Sisters and Stethoscopes holds "Kleenex and Kindness" in West Grace Street Student Housing-South, Room 1004H. Attendees are asked to bring tissue packets to donate to patients at Massey Cancer Center. The tissues are very much needed during the winter season. Participants will decorate the tissues with uplifting messages. Only tissue packets are needed, not boxes.
VCU Recreational Sports: 'Love Your Health: How To Look and Feel Good'
Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
VCU Recreational Sports Wellness presents "Love Your Health: How to Look and Feel Good" at the Hunton Student Center to discuss current research about nutrition, exercise and overall wellness. Screening of 'The New Fire'

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering sponsors the screening of "The New Fire" at the Grace Street Theater as part of the RVA Environmental Film Festival. Following the screening, Sama Bilbao y León, Ph.D., will host a question-and-answer session with the director.
VCU Libraries' 16th Annual Black History Month Lecture: Ibram X. Kendi on 'Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America'

VCU Libraries presents the 16th annual Black History Month lecture in Cabell Library, Lecture Hall, featuring Ibram X. Kendi, historian and author, discussing his book, "Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America," for which he won the National Book Award. Muevelo's First Latin Dance Workshop

Muevelo hosts its first Latin dance workshop of the semester in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Room 1030J. Participants will learn salsa and bachata. No experience is needed and everyone is welcome.
Murals of Jackson Ward Tour
Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 from 9 a.m. to noon
The Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement and the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs offers a Murals of Jackson Ward tour for participants to explore the diversity of one of Richmond's most vibrant neighborhoods. During the walk, participants will visit murals, revitalized buildings and historic homes to learn more about a neighborhood that has had numerous incarnations. From an immigrant working-class neighborhood to the Harlem of the South, participants will see how art is shaping the face of Jackson Ward today. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. at the University Student Commons Information Desk. The tour will depart from the University Student Commons at 9:30 a.m.

The Activities Programming Board invites the VCU community to a Trap N Paint event with a DJ, instructor, canvases and paint (provided by Trap N Paint) in the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballroom B. Registration opens on Friday, Feb. 16, around 7 p.m. and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
'Women in Engineering Luncheon'

The Altria Family of Companies, VCU School of Engineering Foundation and the School of Engineering Career Services host the 2018 Women in Engineering luncheon in the School of Engineering East Hall, Qimonda Atrium. Stephanie Adams, Ph.D., dean of Batten College of Engineering and Technology, Old Dominion University, will be speaking about her success and expertise in engineering.

Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (April) Committee.
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is accepting committee members to serve on the Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (April) Committee. The purpose of the committee is to involve both faculty, staff and students in the planning process for the programs to ensure that OMSA as an office are being inclusive and representing those who identify with the population. Events include discussions, movie screenings, guest speakers and educational forums. All identities are welcomed.
Relationship Skills Classes
The Well hosts relationship skills classes for LGBTQIA+ students starting the week of Feb. 19. The relationships skills class is a free six-week class that is not for credit. Multiple times will be offered throughout the semester. Interested students can register by Wednesday, Feb. 14, by visiting the website below.

The School of Engineering, in conjunction with local environmental groups, invites the VCU community to attend a series of films and discussions with environmental themes being held at various locations around Richmond including the Grace Street Theater and the historic Byrd Theater in Carytown.
