The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, in collaboration with the Black Student Union, hosts a special edition of "First Friday" for black student organizations in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons. This event will allow student organizations to be informed of different events and learn how to get involved this semester. A DJ and food will be provided.

Chili’s at VCU Hosts Official Men’s Basketball Away Game Watch Parties
Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at 9 p.m.
This February, Chili's at VCU hosts the official Men's Basketball watch parties. Fans can catch the HAVOC live on each of Chilis' nine TVs as the team takes on University of Richmond on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 9 p.m.; George Washington on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m.; and Massachusetts on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. There will be food specials including the $5 game-day burger and attendees are encouraged to wear VCU gear for free giveaways and prizes. 'Frankenstein Dissected: Twenty-First-Century Legacies of a Nineteenth-Century Classic'

The Humanities Research Center, Department of English and the STS Program present "Frankenstein Dissected: Twenty-First-Century Legacies of a Nineteenth-Century Classic" in Cabell Library, Second Floor Multipurpose Room, as part of its spring 2018 speaker series. A roundtable with preliminary comments by three guests, followed by conversation with the audience featuring Susan Lederer, Ed Finn, and Catherine Ingrassia. Admission is free and all are welcome.

The Life and Work of Richard Carlyon

VCU Libraries and the ICA look back at the celebrated and influential artist and VCU faculty member, Richard Carlyon (1930-2006), in a one-night program and art showing featuring some of his multimedia creations in Cabell Library, Lecture Hall. The event, held in conjunction with a retrospective exhibit at the Reynolds Gallery, marks the recent acquisition of Carylon's papers and digital works by VCU Libraries. Refreshments will be served. Spades Tournament

'The Future of U.S.–Pakistan Relations'

The VCU Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program and World Affairs Council of Greater Richmond will host a conversation with His Excellency Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the United States in the VCUArts Depot. Ambassador Chaudhry’s lecture on “The Future of U.S.–Pakistan Relations” will be followed by a Q&A session. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program: Adaptive Climbing with Sportable
The VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program is working with Sportable to host Adaptive Climbing Clinics. The clinics provide indoor rock climbing experiences to members of the community with physical and visual disabilities. Volunteer training will be held at the Cary Street Gym Climbing Wall on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 7-9 p.m. The first Adaptive Climbing Clinic of the semester will be held on Friday, Feb. 2.

VCU Recreational Sports: Personal Training
VCU Recreational Sports offers personal training to all students and members. Certified personal trainers create customized exercise programs to meet participants' needs and specific goals. Rec Sports trainers can help clients lose weight, build muscle, train for a competition, or recover from injuries. Sessions are available at the Cary Street Gym and MCV Campus Recreation Center in one-on-one and partner training packages of three, six, 12, or 18 one-hour-long sessions.

Free Chair Yoga Classes for Faculty and Staff

VCU Poster Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creativity: Abstracts Accepted
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) accepts abstracts from students for the annual VCU Poster Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creativity, part of VCU Student Research Weeks. This is an opportunity for students to present research endeavors and creative scholarship. Presentations may be for completed research projects, completed papers or research in progress. Poster abstracts will be accepted until Thursday, March 22.

VCUDine offers food specials for the big game on Sunday, Feb. 4. For three swipes, students can get 1) a large cheese or pepperoni pizza, a dozen chicken wings with sauce and a two-liter soda from Market 810 and Jonah’s, or 2) 25 chicken fingers with sauce from Raising Cane’s. Pre-order on Friday, Feb. 2 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Shafer Court Dining Center. Order on game day by visiting Market 810, Jonah’s or Raising Cane’s. Raising Cane’s will also offer all day swipes on Sunday, Feb 4.

Tech Tuesdays start Feb. 13: Tompkins-McCaw Library launches Technology Tuesdays, Innovative Media programs on the MCV Campus
Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences launches a new series, "Technology Tuesdays," that showcases Innovative Media programs and free library resources and expertise on the MCV Campus. "Technology Tuesdays" run from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and are held in Tompkins-McCaw Library, on the second floor Lecture Room.
