The Residence Hall Association and the National Residence Hall Honorary presents the annual "Ram Scholar Jam" in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons. Attendees will learn more about campus resources while enjoying free school supplies and food from Noodles & Company.
Active Minds at VCU General Body Meeting
7 p.m.
Active Minds at VCU holds its first general body meeting of the semester at the White House. Attendees will learn more about Active Minds and the fun events planned for the semester.

GenEd30 Town Hall
Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The GenEd Task Force presents the proposed framework for the new 30-credit general education requirement in the University Student Commons Theater. The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes with an opportunity for questions and feedback. Feedback will be accepted at the town hall meetings and at the website below. The formal feedback period will end on Friday, Feb. 9.

BOSS Day: Business Organizations and Student Services Fair

The School of Business Office of Student Engagement presents BOSS Day, Business Organizations and Student Services Fair in the Snead Hall Atrium. This event is the School of Business's version of the SOVO Fair. Violence Awareness Workshop

alpha Kappa Delta Phi at VCU holds a violence awareness workshop in the University Student Commons, near the Commons Theater, in honor of a fallen sister who has passed away due to an act of violence after a New Years Party. Participants can fill out a heart that says "Hands are for ___, not violence." Information about raising violence awareness and where to get help will be provided.
iCubed My Life, My Scholarship Symposium Series

The VCU Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry and Innovation (iCubed) holds a "My Life, My Scholarship" symposium series every Wednesday at the Barnes & Noble @ VCU Cafe. Attendees will listen as VCU iCubed faculty authentically share how their lived experiences have shaped scholarship and academic pursuits. Elvin Price, Pharm.D., Ph.D., will share how his particular lived experiences have shaped his interest in fighting cardiometabolic diseases and educating the next generation of health care practitioners and scientists. 'Wednesdays in The Workshop: Rapid Prototyping for Product Design'
Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
VCU Libraries hosts "Wednesdays in the Workshop," an open house designed to help attendees explore new equipment, techniques, softwares or experiences every Wednesday in the lower level of Cabell Library. This week, participants will learn techniques to quickly and accurately fabricate a model of their design using 3D modeling and printing. No registration is required.

Study Abroad Spring Fair

The Global Education Office hosts the Study Abroad Spring Fair in Rodney's Lounge in the Shafer Court Dining Center. Students can meet study abroad program providers, other students who have studied abroad and representatives from various offices at VCU that assist with the study abroad process. Ten students will receive a $500 study abroad award. Attendees can discuss options to study abroad this summer or next fall.

NSA at VCU: Maiti Nepal Fundraiser
Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018 at 2 p.m.
The Nepalese Student Association at VCU hosts a fundraiser in the University Student Commons Theater for the Maiti Nepal organization to donate to and raise awareness for children and women being trafficked in Nepal. The documentary, "The Day My God Died," will be shown. Tickets are $3 and all proceeds will go to Maiti Nepal.

'A Cluster-Centric Approach to Social Network Analysis of Social Media Conversations'

The VCU Media, Art and Text (MATX) Ph.D. Program and the Robertson School of Media and Culture host Itai Himelboim, Ph.D., associate professor, University of Georgia, and director of the SEE Suite: Social Media Engagement and Evaluation, delivering a lecture on "A Cluster-Centric Approach to Social Network Analysis of Social Media Conversations" in Hibbs Hall, Room 308. Examining the emergence of online communities, identifying users in key positions, and content that crosses community-lines, Himelboim proposes a new approach to understanding social media activity and dynamics.

Women in Science at VCU: Winter Clothing Drive
Women in Science at VCU hosts its winter clothing drive from Jan. 22 through Feb. 2. Donations of new or lightly-used winter clothing, such as coats, hats, gloves/mittens and scarves are appreciated. Donations will go to Homeward/United Way serving the Greater Richmond and Petersburg area. Donation boxes can be found in Sanger Hall, Kontos Medical Sciences Building, Lyons Dental Building and the Wood Memorial Building.
2018 English Department Writing Awards
The Department of English welcomes undergraduate and graduate submissions in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and literary criticism for its annual writing awards. RAM CAMP Student Director: Applications Accepted
Residential Life and Housing seeks enthusiastic and caring Rams to be RAM CAMP student directors. This position helps plan and facilitate RAM CAMP, a week-long leadership experience that introduces first-year students to VCU traditions, campus resources and fellow Rams. VCU Recreational Sports: ACE Personal Trainer Prep Course
VCU Recreational Sports is offering an ACE Personal Trainer Prep Course, instructed by certified personal trainers with experience in the field. Throughout the eight-week course, participants will learn the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the ACE exam and go on to successfully train clients. This course does not include the exam for certification. Participation in the course includes the textbooks and a discount on the exam registration. Registration ends on Friday, Feb. 2.

VCU Recreational Sports: Intramural Sports Tournaments
The VCU Recreational Sports Intramural Sports Program has multiple tournaments in February. These tournaments include inner-tube water polo, badminton, table tennis and racquetball. Intramural Sport Tournaments are single-day events and any student or VCU Recreational Sports member can participate. Registration for the first February tournaments ends on Sunday, Feb. 4.

14th Annual Women's Health Research Day: Abstracts Accepted
The Institute of Women's Health invites the VCU community to present research and projects at the 14th annual VCU Women's Health Research Day on Thursday, April 12, from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Kontos Medical Sciences Building. Authors with original research are invited to submit poster abstracts in any research area that focuses on women's health or sex/gender differences. Calling for New Moms to participate in the “Weight and Pregnancy” Research Study.
Are you a new mom (child aged 6-12 months)? Would you like to be in a research study about healthy lifestyle choices across pregnancy and the postpartum period? The “Weight and Pregnancy” study involves completing questionnaires with regarding aspects of nutrition, weight, physical activity, and interaction with your provider across your pregnancy and into the postpartum period (if applicable). This study will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and participants will be financially compensated.
