The Division of Family Medicine and Population Health's Division of Epidemiology hosts Dayna Johnson, Ph.D.,as the speaker for its biweekly Seminar Series in One Capitol Square, 6th floor, room 644. Johnson, instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and associate epidemiologist, Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham & Women's Hospital, will present "The Social Determinants of Sleep Health: Implications for Cardiometabolic Health Disparities."

The Humanities Research Center presents "Muslim Cool: Race, Religion, and Hip-Hop in the United States" in Cabell Library, Lecture Hall 303, as part of their Spring 2018 Speaker Series. Su'ad Abdul Khabeer (associate professor of American culture and Arab and Muslim American studies, University of Michigan) will lecture. The Powell-Edwards Lecture Series is sponsored by the Powell-Edwards Distinguished Professorship in the Religion and the Arts.

VCU Recreational Sports Smart Food, Smart Body - Monroe Park Campus

The VCU Recreational Sports Wellness Program hosts an event offering one-on-one conversations with a registered dietician to discuss how exercise can affect how you eat, your stress levels and your mind/body connection at the Cary Street Gym. The program challenges the VCU community this month to focus on the physical aspects of wellness in relationship to nutrition, exercise, mindfulness and stress relief. Each week, the program will send you tips on how to live a healthier life.

Talk by alumna Colette Fu: 'Pop-up Book Wonderlands'

In one of three events marking the addition of the 3 millionth volume to VCU Libraries' collections, the libraries present alumna Colette Fu in the Cabell Library Lecture Hall, Room 303. Fu discusses her book "Wa Hair Swinging Dance," a pop-up book in which she captures the fervent movement of women from the Wa people of China engaged in a traditional harvest dance. The book is a valuable addition to VCU Libraries' Book Art Collection.

2018 African-American Alumni Council Mentoring Circle Mocktail Party

VCU Alumni's African-American Alumni Council's Mentoring Circle hosts a Mocktail Party in the Cabell Library Lecture Hall, Room 303. The council connects students and alumni with shared professional interests through a yearlong mentoring relationship. Last year, the Mentoring Circle paired 80 students with alumni mentors. The Mocktail Party that simulates a professional cocktail party to provide a platform to help you learn how to comport and introduce yourself in a business setting.

May Commencement exercises take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, at the Richmond Coliseum, 601 E. Leigh St. Students participating in the ceremony must wear caps, gowns and hoods. Academic regalia is available for purchase at the Barnes & Noble @ VCU on the Monroe Park and MCV campuses. If you are unable to visit your campus bookstore, you can purchase your regalia online through Tuesday, April 30, at http://www.balfour.com/vcu/. Caps and gowns will not be available for purchase at the Commencement ceremony.

VCU Art Education presents the VCU Creative Arts Day Camp for children in grades K-9. Each session runs July 9- August 3, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Creative Arts Day Camp theme for 2018 is Community. Participants will explore local activism, public art, collaboration and inclusion in community through art-making in a variety of media including sculpture, digital media, printmaking, painting, drawing, bookmaking, fibers and more.
