Free Vehicle and Bike Safety Checks
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
VCU Police is hosting free vehicle and bike safety checks ahead of the summer travel season in VCU’s HB Lot, corner of Broad and North Harrison streets. Leete Tire and Auto is performing vehicle checks and Ram Bikes will check bicycles. Police officers will also offer child safety seat inspections. VCU Parking & Transportation staff, as well as Formula SAE, will be on site. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided. Please note that this is not an enforcement event, so police will not issue citations.
VCUDine Elephant Thai Guest Restaurant

VCUDine welcomes local restaurant Elephant Thai to Market 810 in the Shafer Court Dining Center. A menu of authentic Thai dishes will be served for lunch and dinner. SGA: 'Gelato and the VP of Health Sciences'

The Student Government Association hosts "Gelato and the VP of Health Sciences" at the Hunton Learning Center Plaza. This event is geared to graduate and professional students to increase awareness of new changes occurring in curriculum and other topics affecting the MCV Campus and the VCU Graduate School. Students will have an opportunity to ask the VP of Health Sciences questions. Gelato sundaes will be provided.

The VCU Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry and Innovation (iCubed) holds a "My Life, My Scholarship" symposium at the Monroe Park Campus Barnes & Noble @ VCU Cafe. The next event features Dr. Oswaldo Moreno, assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and member of iCubed's Oral Health in Childhood & Adolescence Core. He will share how his particular lived experiences (especially areas of immigration, acculturative stress, and system biases) have shaped his interest in Latinx psychology, healthcare utilization, psychology of religion and healthcare disparities among ethnic minority groups. The VCU Student Media Center, in conjunction with The Commonwealth Times Alumni, present SMC Talks: Freelancing 101 in the Temple Building, Room 1164. The roundtable discussion will shed light on what it’s like to be an independent journalist. The session will include a guided discussion and time for audience questions. The guest speakers include: Dale Brumfield; Robert C. Powell III; Samantha Willis; Jonathan Howard; and Joan Tupponce.

Photoshop Editing Workshop
7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Photography Club at VCU holds a Photoshop editing workshop at West Grace Street Student Housing - North, Room 1030G/H. For beginner to advanced levels, we will teach masking, camera raw editing, print applications and more techniques to make your pictures prize-worthy. We offer individual time with our officers. The first 15 people to attend will receive Adobe water bottles, pop-sockets and other giveaways.
The Community Forum on Critical Issues in Black Richmond: Incarceration

The Department of African American Studies and the National Jericho Movement present the Community Forum on Critical Issues in Black Richmond in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 1105. This month's topic is incarceration. The discussion will be led by Lillie Branch-Kennedy, founder of Resource Information Help for the Disadvantaged and Disenfranchised (RIHD) and the Central Richmond area chapter leader for the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. Free and open to the public.

Early Bird Student Conduct Board Training
Friday, Apr. 27, 2018 from 9 a.m. to noon
Student Conduct & Academic Integrity seeks faculty, staff and professional, graduate and undergraduate students to volunteer for the Student Conduct Board, and offers a training in the University Student Commons, Forum Room. Trained members of the SCB participate on Conduct Boards, Sanction Review Boards or Appeal Boards to determine if an infraction of the Student Code of Conduct occurred and to recommend sanctions that may be imposed if a violation has been committed. Those trained now will be able to begin serving immediately through the 2018/19 academic year.

Pi Sigma Alpha Spaghetti Charity Dinner for Cystic Fibrosis

Pi Sigma Alpha, VCU's Political Science Honor Society, is sponsoring the 12th Annual Lucy Saladino Spaghetti Dinner at the Wembly Swim & Racquet Club 1311 Gaskins Rd. Richmond, VA 23238. All proceeds go to the Lucy Saladino Memorial Scholarship Fund at Mills Godwin High School and to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Pasta with homemade meatballs or marinara, salad, bread, drinks and dessert will be served. The suggested donation is $13 per person. Adult Research Volunteers Invited
The Kinesiology and Health Science Department at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking male participants interested in participating in a research project that will assess the impact of a high active or low active lifestyle and cellular aging on cognitive performance. Participants will be entered for a chance to win an Amazon gift card. To participate, you must be a healthy male adult between 40 and 64 years old with a body mass index (BMI) less than 30.0 (assessed by the research staff). You will be asked to come in for two visits in the morning for an exercise test and two brief cognitive tests. If you are an individual who has a history of cancer in the last ten years, preexisting inflammatory or metabolic diseases (i.e., cardiovascular disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis), or are on medications that may alter inflammation or metabolism, you may not be eligible for this study.
Participants Are Invited for Study Examining Sedentary Activity and Vascular Function
We are seeking young (18-35 years) and old adults (65+ years) to participate in a study examining the effect of prolonged sitting on blood vessel function. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

We are seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years, females and males, to participate in a study examining the effect of estrogen on blood vessel function at rest and during exercise.
