Health Behavior and Policy Seminar: 'Patient interaction research utilizing methods and interventions that span behavioral and health economic outcomes'

The Department of Health Behavior and Policy presents a seminar featuring Richard Brown, Ph.D., associate professor, Health Behavior and Policy, discussing “Patient interaction research utilizing methods and interventions that span Behavioral and Health Economic outcomes" in One Capitol Square, 12th Floor, Conference Room. Lunch will be provided.
'Changes in Forensic Science: Rape Kits, Fentanyl and Beyond'

VCU Forensic Science hosts guest speaker Linda Jackson, director, Virginia Department of Forensic Science, speaking on "Changes in Forensic Science: Rape Kits, Fentanyl and Beyond" in Harris Hall, Room 2129, as part of its Forensic Science Graduate Seminar. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Advanced Chamber Music Recital

VCU Music presents a concert featuring students from the Advanced Chamber Music class directed by Dr. Magdalena Adamek in the James W. Black Music Center's recital hall. The program will include works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Anton Hoffmeister, Robert Schumann, Eric Ewazen, Valerie Coleman and Malcolm Arnold. Admission is free.

VCU Jazz Orchestra II Concert

VCU Music hosts the VCU Jazz Orchestra II (Professor Steven Cunningham, director) presenting a program highlighting the compositions of Duke Ellington at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. Also hear student vocalist Georgia Cotter sing Gershwin’s “Someone to Watch Over Me.” Tickets are $7 advance, $10 at the door and free with VCU student ID.

Screening of Documentary Film 'The New Barbarianism'

The Department of Political Science hosts a screening of "The New Barbarianism" in the Temple Building, Room 1164. The new documentary examines the crisis of deliberate targeting of humanitarian workers during armed conflict, its causes, the limited international response, and possible ways forward through dozens of interviews and original footage obtained inside Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan. A discussion with the filmmakers will follow.

Create Piñatas to Help VCU Set World Record

The VCU da Vinci Center has partnered with the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in an attempt to break a world record for the world's largest display of piñatas to be unveiled at the Que Pasa festival in May. The center will hold a piñata-making workshop at VCU Innovate, 1010 W. Grace St., Room 1231.
'Mindfulness for Healthcare Professionals'

VCU Massey Cancer Center and the Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research, in partnership with the Division for Academic Success, will offer a special interactive support session in the McGlothlin Medical Education Center, Rooms 12-101 & 12-102. This class is open to all VCU and VCUH employees. Amy Miller, director of the Division for Academic Success, will offer participants the opportunity to understand who they are as a learner. Participants will learn study strategies to prepare for exams (such as the upcoming SOCRA Exam), time management tips and test taking strategies for exams.

Talk by Dr. David Cifu: 'Rehabilitation after Traumatic Brain Injury'

In one of three events marking the addition of the 3 millionth volume to VCU Libraries' collections, the libraries present Dr. David X. Cifu, M.D. Ph.D., for "Rehabilitation After Traumatic Brain Injury," at the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences. This work is based on years of research and leading-edge practice in the treatment of traumatic brain injury, including current translation research conducted at VCU, and is a key addition to Tompkins-McCaw Library's Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) collection. Caps, Gowns and Hoods for May Commencement
May Commencement exercises take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, at the Richmond Coliseum, 601 E. Leigh St. Students participating in the ceremony must wear caps, gowns and hoods. Academic regalia is available for purchase at the Barnes & Noble @ VCU on the Monroe Park and MCV campuses. If you are unable to visit your campus bookstore, you can purchase your regalia online through Tuesday, April 30, at http://www.balfour.com/vcu/. Caps and gowns will not be available for purchase at the Commencement ceremony.

VCU Recreational Sports Aquatics Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons
VCU Recreational Sports Aquatics offers private and semi-private swim lessons designed to give individualized instruction to participants in order to meet their goals. The two, four and six-hour private swim lesson packages may be broken down into 15, 30, 45 or 60 minute sessions depending on instructor/participant preferences. Registration is currently open for students, members or non-members.

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program Wilderness Survival Skills Weekend
VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program hosts a Wilderness Survival Skills Weekend March 31 to April 1. Learn the basics of wilderness survival and put those new skills into practice during the overnight trip. Topics includes water purification, shelter building, fire starting, off trail navigation and other skills that will help you thrive, not just survive, in the wild. Price includes food, transportation, equipment and instruction. Registration ends on March 27.
