Christ Centered Fellowship hosts emergency preparedness event

Run. Hide. Fight. Christ Centered Fellowship hosts Rick Pyle, a firefighter and paramedic, for "Emergency Preparedness: How to Survive an Active Campus Shooter Event and How to Stop the Bleed." Held outdoors at the Park Plaza directly behind Hibbs Hall. Learn helpful first aid tips and how to use a tourniquet. Refreshments will be provided.
'The Fight for Fair Pay'
3 p.m.
Sociologists for Women in Society at VCU presents "The Fight for Fair Pay" with Stephanie Luce in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salon I. Dr. Luce will be discussing labor movements past and present, and what we can do to assist in assuring a living wage.
VCU Chemistry 2017-18 John B. Fenn Lecture

'Sweetest of Richmond'

Residence Hall Association presents its Third Annual Sweetest of Richmond in the University Commons, Commonwealth Ballrooms. Students are invited to eat all of Richmond's finest desserts and vote for the best. Categories include donuts, cookies, cakes, cupcakes and bubble tea.
Salsa and Bachata Workshop
7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Muevelo at VCU is hosting a latin dance workshop in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Room 1030J (830 W. Grace St.). Participants will learning how to dance Salsa, Bachata and social dancing techniques. No experience needed and all levels are welcomed.
Women in the Arts
7 p.m.
Black Arts Student Empowerment (B.A.S.E.) will hold an event focused on personal branding in the art world at the Depot, 814 W. Broad St. The discussions for the event will include topics such as how to build art websites, setting realistic goals, applying for residencies and internships.
Students Helping Honduras Thrift Shop
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Students Helping Honduras at VCU will be holding a pop-up thrift shop in the University Student Commons Plaza. There will be a variety of items for sale including clothing and books. All proceeds go towards the construction of Cruz Roja School in Honduras.

National Scholarship Information Sessions

The National Scholarship Office hosts two information sessions in the Honors College, Multipurpose Room 1303, 701 W. Grace St., to introduce VCU students to a variety of (inter)national scholarship and fellowship opportunities and review application tips. Sessions will be held at 3 p.m. March 23, and 2 p.m. March 27. These sessions are specifically designed for first- and second-year undergrads, transfer students and grad students who are new to VCU.

'An Intimate History of the Boston Massacre'

The Department of History and the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia presents "An Intimate History of the Boston Massacre" in Cabell Library, Lecture Hall 303. The lecture will be given by Serena Zabin, Ph.D., professor of history and director of American Studies program, Carleton College. Admission is free and all are welcome.

iCubed Scholar MK Abadoo's 'Octavia's Brood: Riding the Ox Home'

VCU Dance presents "Octavia's Brood: Riding the Ox Home," an original work by iCubed scholar MK Abadoo, March 23 and 24 at the Grace Street Theater, 934 W. Grace St. Abadoo has crafted an immersive dance work inspired by the envisioning of science fiction writer Octavia Butler and freedom fighter, Harriet Tubman, and drawing from Contemporary, West African and Funk dance genres to explore story-telling from the perspectives of women of the African diaspora. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 students.

VCU Music's Flamenco Festival VII presents guitarist Ricardo Marlow and dancer Sara Jerez in the W.E. Singleton Center’s Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. Ricardo Marlo is a virtuoso flamenco guitarist whose percussive style of playing is highly sought after by local flamenco artists. He’ll be joined by dancer Sara Jerez who’s known for her beautiful classical style and flamboyant interpretations of flamenco. $15 general admission, free for VCU students with ID.

Volunteers Needed for Tunnel of Oppression

Flamenco Legend: Torcuato Zamora

VCU Music's Flamenco Festival VII presents legendary flamenco guitarist Torcuato Zamora in the W.E. Singleton Center’s Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. Zamora was born amidst the rhythms and legends of Granada in Spain and since coming to the United States in the 1960s has devoted himself to presenting the music of his country, flamenco, as well as classical and South American music and his own compositions. $15 general admission, free for VCU students with ID.

Woodbine, Ph.D. and Paul Rucker, who are are involved in VCU iCubed’s Racial Equity, Arts and Culture core. Rucker will share his commitment to making artwork that impacts viewers’ understanding of issues related to incarceration, racially-motivated violence, and the current and historical impacts of slavery in the U.S. Woodbine will share about his search for meaning and transcendence in street basketball and his vision of transforming athletic spaces to sacred spaces. Kevin Kling : 'The Healing Power of Story'

The VCUarts Department of Interior Design invites the VCU community to a presentation by Kevin Kling on the theme of healing in storytelling in the Grace Street Theater, 934 W. Grace St. Kling was born with a congenital birth defect - a shortened left arm with no wrist or thumb. Fourteen years ago, a devastating motorcycle accident left him with a paralyzed right arm. Kling channels his profound experiences with trauma, disability and loss into stories that bring a message of healing and connection to audiences around the world.

Engage with AAPI Public Art
The Asian American and Pacific Islander Alliance is gathering responses for a public art project at these times and locations: March 20 10 a.m.-5 p.m., the Compass; March 23 10 a.m.-5 p.m., University Student Commons; March 27 10 a.m.-5 p.m., University Student Commons. The public art is asking the VCU community to respond to the prompt, "Being Asian American/Pacific Islander means ..." Responses will be displayed in Cabell Library during April.
