Nature Appreciation and Community Healing Organization (NACHO) is hosting a Life Coaching session featuring faculty sponsor and certified life-coach, Alyssa Mckeithen, in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms C-D. We will be discussing valuable life-skills that promote well-being, stress relief and lots of other useful methods you can take with you through life.
Sikh Student Association - Love and Learning: Sikhi 101
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Sikh Student Association invites the VCU community to its first Sikhi 101 workshop-based seminar discussing the history and fundamentals of the religion in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Room 1030J. The primary aim of this workshop is to educate others on the Sikh faith and its intricacies while creating dialogue between Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike.

The Division of Family Medicine and Population Health's Division of Epidemiology hosts Dayna Johnson, Ph.D.,as the speaker for its biweekly Seminar Series in One Capitol Square, 6th floor, room 644. Johnson, instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and associate epidemiologist, Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham & Women's Hospital, will present "The Social Determinants of Sleep Health: Implications for Cardiometabolic Health Disparities."

The Medicine Wagon Show: Patent Medicines and Miracle Cures of Yesterday and Today Presented by “Doc” Al Schalow

As part of the traveling exhibit "Pick Your Poison: Intoxicating Pleasures & Medical Prescriptions" from the National Library of Medicine, Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences hosts ‘Doc’ Al Schalow (VCU School of Pharmacy ‘61) and his Medicine Wagon Show at the library. This presentation by a fictional showman uses humor, magic and storytelling to recount the cure-alls and patent medicines that were popular in the 19th century and how laws and attitudes about them changed.

VCU Police / American Red Cross Blood Drive

To support patients in the greater Richmond area, The VCU Police Department invites the VCU community and the public to a blood drive with the American Red Cross at police headquarters, 224 E. Broad St. The goal is to collect 22 pints of blood and schedule 30 appointments. Appointments are preferred; walk-ins welcome. The American Red Cross is the primary supplier of blood to all VCU Health, Bon Secours, Sentara and Henrico Doctors' hospitals across Virginia. About one third of Red Cross blood used by local hospitals goes to VCU Medical Center.

The Division for Inclusive Excellence offers a one-day Building Inclusive Communities (BIC) workshop for VCU faculty, administrators and staff at the School of Nursing, 1100 E. German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Study Abroad Event

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program Junior Journey on the James
VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program offers the Junior Journey on the James, an overnight camp for middle school age students, ages 10-13, that will follow a portion of the VCU course Footprints on the James. Students will learn about the James river ecology, cultural history, and get to explore tidal creeks along the way. The cost will be $800 and there will be two sessions to choose from, July 9-13 or July 23-27.

2018 Institute on Inclusive Teaching now Accepting Requests for Participation
The Division for Inclusive Excellence and the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence announce the 2018 Institute on Inclusive Teaching (IIT) for VCU educators who want to explore strategies for inclusive teaching and transforming pedagogical practices, to begin with a two-day kickoff May 17-18, 2018. Requests for participation are due by March 31, 2018. VCU faculty (any rank), graduate students and staff are welcome to participate.

Fulbright Scholar Program open for applications
The application for the 2019-2020 Fulbright Scholar Awards is open for faculty, staff and administrators who are interested in applying. Information sessions regarding the Fulbright Scholar Awards will be scheduled later this spring, if there is enough interest. The deadline for applying for the 2019-2020 awards is August 1, 2018.

Engage with AAPI Public Art
The Asian American and Pacific Islander Alliance is gathering responses for a public art project at these times and locations: March 20 10 a.m.-5 p.m., the Compass; March 23 10 a.m.-5 p.m., University Student Commons; March 27 10 a.m.-5 p.m., University Student Commons. The public art is asking the VCU community to respond to the prompt, "Being Asian American/Pacific Islander means ..." Responses will be displayed in Cabell Library during April.

Participants Are Invited For Study Examining Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Exercise
This study is seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years who have PTSD or symptoms of PTSD. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of PTSD symptoms on blood vessel function at rest and during exercise. Participants will be compensated for their time. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
Deadline Extended: Quest Commercialization Fund – Spring 2018 Round
The deadline for the Spring 2018 round of Quest Commercialization Fund has been extended and will now close at 12:00 noon on March 28. Funds will be awarded in May 2018. The fund is dedicated to advancing VCU inventions to a more mature stage and improving their chances of being brought to market. The application is available at the URL below.

United2Heal Seeks Art Submissions
United2Heal at VCU is accepting art submissons to be showcased for a silent auction at our Sixth Annual Fundraising Gala. We are currently looking for qualified candidates to donate their art pieces. All proceeds from our Fundraising Gala will be used to sustain our warehouse space and the supplies we are in need of in order to continue our mission of collecting surplus medical supplies and sending them to areas in need around the world. The deadline for submissions is March 31.
