The Division of Family Medicine and Population Health hosts E. Marshall Brooks, Ph.D., as a special invited speaker in One Capitol Square, 6th floor, Room 644. Brooks, instructor in the Department of Family Medicine and Population Health and adjunct professor in VCU's Department of Anthropology, will present "Community Health on the Margins of Medicine: Promoting Context, Complexity and Compassion in Research and Practice."
VCU Commonwealth Singers and VCU Women's Choir

The VCU Commonwealth Singers directed by Erin Freeman and VCU Women’s Choir directed by Rebecca Tyree present "Open Minds: Music that Mends," in the W.E. Singleton Center's Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. This concert will feature music with themes of understanding, sorrow, love, and social justice, and will include the public premiere of professor Antonio García’s composition, "Open Minds, Closer Thoughts." Free admission.

Intercultural Festival

VCU's Intercultural Festival will take place at the Compass, Linden Street, Floyd Avenue and the Harris Hall lawn. This year's theme is "Around the World in One Festival." The event will includ food, cultural performances, free crafts, games, local vendors, prizes and more.
Franklin Street Artistic Mansions: A Lecture and Tour with Charles Brownell, Ph.D.
Saturday, Apr. 7, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Art historian Charles Brownell, Ph.D., lectures on the architecture and interior design of three significant structures in the heart of VCU's Monroe Park Campus in the James Branch Cabell Library Lecture Hall, Room 303. Following the one-hour talk, Brownell will lead a tour of these artistic mansions that now house VCU offices. Note that the walking tour has a waiting list. Science, Technology and Society presents Dr. Sai Suryanarayanan as part of the lecture series "Science Fact, Science Fiction" in the University Student Commons, Forum Room. Her talk on "An Indigenous Symbioculture of Plants, People and Bees Facing Agribiotechnology in the Yucatán Peninsula" will examine resistance to the spread of genetically engineered crops is on the rise in Luso-Hispanic countries, which are the world’s largest producers and exporters of GE-crops.

VCU Recreational Sports Rock Climbing Weekend
VCU Recreational Sports hosts a rock climbing weekend, April 14-15. Enjoy a beautiful weekend climbing rocky crags away from the city in one of the most famous climbing areas in North America. OAP trip leaders will teach you basic climbing techniques, equipment usage and belaying techniques in a safe and trusting environment. This rock climbing and camping adventure is designed for climbers of all abilities and will help you gain confidence in your skills. Register by April 10.
