Family Medicine and Population Health Seminar: Dr. E. Marshall Brooks

The Division of Family Medicine and Population Health hosts E. Marshall Brooks, Ph.D., as a special invited speaker in One Capitol Square, 6th floor, Room 644. Brooks, instructor in the Department of Family Medicine and Population Health and adjunct professor in VCU's Department of Anthropology, will present "Community Health on the Margins of Medicine: Promoting Context, Complexity and Compassion in Research and Practice."
Outdoor Yoga
2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Nature Appreciation and Community Healing Organization presents outdoor yoga on the field at Cary Street Gym with yoga instructor Baldeep Singh Pooni, a former VCU student and certified yogi who has traveled around the world in his yoga journey, completing his certification in India. Baldeep specializes in Ashtanga yoga and will lead us in a yoga class that is suitable for all levels. Bring your own mat if you have one; limited mats available.

Honors College Continuing Student Information Session

The Honors College invites current VCU students to attend an information session in the Honors College Multipurpose Room 1303, 701 W. Grace St., to learn about the benefits of joining the Honors College and how to apply. Attendance at an information session is required in order to apply.
VCU Commonwealth Singers and VCU Women's Choir
7:30 p.m.
The VCU Commonwealth Singers directed by Erin Freeman and VCU Women’s Choir directed by Rebecca Tyree present "Open Minds: Music that Mends," in the W.E. Singleton Center's Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. This concert will feature music with themes of understanding, sorrow, love, and social justice, and will include the public premiere of professor Antonio García’s composition, "Open Minds, Closer Thoughts." Free admission.

Intercultural Festival

VCU's Intercultural Festival will take place at the Compass, Linden Street, Floyd Avenue and the Harris Hall lawn. This year's theme is "Around the World in One Festival." The event will includ food, cultural performances, free crafts, games, local vendors, prizes and more.
Franklin Street Artistic Mansions: A Lecture and Tour with Charles Brownell, Ph.D.
Saturday, Apr. 7, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Art historian Charles Brownell, Ph.D., lectures on the architecture and interior design of three significant structures in the heart of VCU's Monroe Park Campus in the James Branch Cabell Library Lecture Hall, Room 303. Following the one-hour talk, Brownell will lead a tour of these artistic mansions that now house VCU offices. Note that the walking tour has a waiting list. Free and Open Diversity Photo Shoot

Photography Club at VCU presents an "Embrace Your Genes/Jeans" Diversity Photo Shoot at the Interdisciplinary Studio of the Depot, 814 W. Broad St. Experienced student photographers will capture and offer free images of VCU's diverse population. All students are invited to wear a plain t-shirt and jeans to showcase their diversity in skin, hair, height and more. Photographers are also need to shoot, and could win Qdoba and Starbucks gift cards.

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program Junior Journey on the James
VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program offers the Junior Journey on the James, an overnight camp for middle school age students, ages 10-13, that will follow a portion of the VCU course Footprints on the James. Students will learn about the James river ecology, cultural history, and get to explore tidal creeks along the way. The cost will be $800 and there will be two sessions to choose from, July 9-13 or July 23-27.

VCU Recreational Sports Canoe Day Trip at Dutch Gap. This day out on Dutch Gap learning about conservation, paddling the tidal lagoon and exploring the boat graveyard. Price includes transportation, equipment and guides. This trip will take place on April 15; registration ends on April 10.

VCU Recreational Sports Rock Climbing Weekend
VCU Recreational Sports hosts a rock climbing weekend, April 14-15. Enjoy a beautiful weekend climbing rocky crags away from the city in one of the most famous climbing areas in North America. OAP trip leaders will teach you basic climbing techniques, equipment usage and belaying techniques in a safe and trusting environment. This rock climbing and camping adventure is designed for climbers of all abilities and will help you gain confidence in your skills. Register by April 10.
