Meeting the Skill Gap

The Career Development Collaborative (CDC), one of the career communities supported by the Great Place: HR Redesign, is hosting a workshop in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms ABC, on how to help students meet the skill gap that exists between them and their desired career goals. Dr. Maggie Tolan will introduce an exercise she has developed and we will practice using this tool. Light refreshments will be served.

Safety Expo

VCU Safety and Risk Management will hold a Safety Expo in the Main Hospital, 2nd Floor Conference Rooms (above the Cafeteria). The expo will include information and best practices about topics such as: VCU Police (LiveSafe app) and Hospital Security; Black Bin information; Oxygen rack segregation; stroke response; TL3 (Text Later Live Longer); fire safety and extinguisher training.
'A Twitter Town Hall: Discussion on the Trauma of Inequality'

Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies, along with New Connections and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, present "A Twitter Town Hall: Discussion on the Trauma of Inequality" on Twitter at @newconx and #NCtalkstrauma. The town hall will address trauma caused by inequality at the intersections of race, education, economics and health on personal and academic levels.

This program will focus on the latest information about risk reduction and early detection with emphasis on the roles of familial history, advances in breast imaging and ever-growing understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. 'Strategies for Managing Your Career'

Utility Work and Construction on MCV Campus: Updates and Reminders
Utility work and construction at and around the former VTCC site will affect traffic patterns around the MCV Campus over the next several months. For updates and reminders, see the schedule below. On May 29, the eastbound lane of Leigh Street, between 9th and 10th streets including the slip ramp, will be reduced to one lane for about 6-8 weeks (late July). There will be increased traffic volume in this area throughout the duration. Street parking will remain closed on 10th Street and bus traffic will continue to be re-routed until November. The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities continues waterline relocation work on Leigh Street through mid-June. Be aware of possible short-term detours. 11th Street, just north of Clay Street, will be reduced down to one lane intermittently for the next 4-6 weeks (through the end of June). Demolition of the former VTCC building continues. The sidewalks on 10th and 11th will be closed to pedestrians throughout the duration of the demolition and construction. For your safety please follow the detours in this area.

Mike Rhoades Basketball Camp
Registration is open for the Mike Rhoades basketball camps, to be held during several dates this summer at the VCU Siegel Center. Dates are June 18-22; June 25-29; July 9-13; and July 30-August 3. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Friday dismissal is at 3 p.m. Most camp sessions will accommodate grades 2-12. Boys and girls are welcome to participate. Cost of camp is $325 per session and includes the camper's lunch each day, a camp T-shirt and camp basketball.

Adult Research Volunteers Invited
The Kinesiology and Health Science Department at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking male participants interested in participating in a research project that will assess the impact of a high active or low active lifestyle and cellular aging on cognitive performance. Participants will be entered for a chance to win an Amazon gift card. To participate, you must be a healthy male adult between 40 and 64 years old with a body mass index (BMI) less than 30.0 (assessed by the research staff). You will be asked to come in for two visits in the morning for an exercise test and two brief cognitive tests. If you are an individual who has a history of cancer in the last ten years, preexisting inflammatory or metabolic diseases (i.e., cardiovascular disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis), or are on medications that may alter inflammation or metabolism, you may not be eligible for this study. VCU Recreational Sports Wellness in Motion provides educational opportunities to empower the community to make healthy choices regarding nutrition, exercise, mindfulness and stress relief. Gmail on the web is getting a brand new user interface. Existing features get a new look, while new email features allow you to work faster, safer and smarter with updated security features, new applications of Google's artificial intelligence and more integration with other G Suite apps. VCU users will find the option to switch to the new Gmail user interface in their settings starting May 22.

Participants Are Invited for Study Examining Estrogen and Blood Vessel Function
We are seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years, females and males, to participate in a study examining the effect of estrogen on blood vessel function at rest and during exercise. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
