Sickle Cell Disease Community Awareness Day
Saturday, Jun. 16, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The VCU Health sickle cell disease programs, in collaboration with City of Richmond Fire Department, will host Sickle Cell Disease Community Awareness Day at Pollard Park, 900 W. Brookland Park Blvd. (adjacent to Richmond Fire Station No. 14) The community is invited for food and drinks, games, prizes, fire truck displays, a fire station open house and live music. Micah "Bam Bamm" White will emcee the event.

'The Use of EMDR in Trauma-Informed Substance Abuse Treatment'
Monday, Jun. 18, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Rams in Recovery presents "The Use of EMDR in Trauma-Informed Substance Abuse Treatment” at the VCU's Motivate Clinic, first floor conference room, Jackson Building, 501 N. 2nd St. Adrienne Loker, IOP coordinator with Dominion Outpatient Services, will discuss Eye Movement De-Sensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a therapeutic intervention in the treatment of substance use disorder. EMDR has been around for roughly 30 years. Initially utilized for the treatment of PTSD, phobias and anxiety, it is now being recognized for its effectiveness among many other diagnoses.
Hot Works Training - MPC
Wednesday, Jun. 20, 2018 at 1 p.m.
Safety and Risk Management will be conducting annual Hot Works (welding, cutting and brazing) training, including introducing the new electronic hot work permit request process, for all Facilities Management (FM) personnel, in the T. Edward Temple Building, Room 1160. Attendance at this training, while primarily for FM employees, is open to all VCU employees who conduct hot works. 'Using De-Identified Data for Research'
Wednesday, Jun. 20, 2018 from noon to 1 p.m.
The Wright Center for Clinical & Translational Research and Tompkins-McCaw Library present their next lunch research seminar, “Using De-Identified Data for Research,” in the Tompkins-McCaw Library, Room 2-010. Tim Aro, clinical research informatics manager, will discuss how to use de-identified data to assess study feasibility, enhance participant recruitment and answer research questions. Participants can bring a lunch; drinks will be provided.

Records Management 101 Training

The Records Management Office will hold Records Management 101 training sessions for the Monroe Park Campus in the Technology Administration Building, Room 202. Training will cover recordkeeping requirements and practices to be compliant with state regulations and University policy. Building Inclusive Communities (BIC) 2-Day Workshop: Register Now

The Division for Inclusive Excellence offers a 2-day Building Inclusive Communities (BIC) workshop for VCU faculty, administrators and staff, June 21-22 on the Monroe Park Campus. BIC supports the university community in creating an engaged, diverse and inclusive campus environment. Hyperloop Pod Unveiling

During an event in Engineering East Hall, Qimonda Atrium, VCU's Hyperloop team unveils the pod they are building to race in the SpaceX final round of competition in Hawthorne, Calif., this July. This event will include the Hyperloop team, their families and friends, sponsors, faculty, staff, students and leadership from across VCU.

Faculty and Staff in VRS Hybrid Plan: June 15 is the Quarterly Deadline for Voluntary Contribution Changes
Virginia Retirement System Hybrid Plan participants can change voluntary contributions once per calendar quarter. Friday, June 15 is the election deadline for changes to become effective in July. Participants can voluntarily contribute up to 4% of their creditable salary to the defined contribution component of the Hybrid Plan, and receive up to a 2.5% employer match.

Leave codes for employees converting to University and Academic Professionals on July 1
The new University Leave code will be available in VCU RealTime starting July 2. If leave has already been submitted and approved in VCU RealTime for June 24 or later, VCU Human Resources will update it to reflect the new University Leave code and no action is required by the employee.
