Goldwater Scholarship Information Session
4 p.m.
Jeff Wing, director of the National Scholarship Office, holds an information session in the Honors College Multipurpose Room (1303), 701 W. Grace St., focusing on the Goldwater Scholarship for STEM undergraduates who are interested in getting a doctorate and pursuing research careers in academia, industry or government. Rising sophomores and juniors who are working on undergraduate research projects on campus this summer are encouraged to attend. Those who may be unable to attend are welcome to contact Wing.

'Capturing the Sound' at Texas Beach

VCUarts Department of Kinetic Imaging offers the third of three workshops in audio field recording, "Capturing the Sound: James River Walks" at Texas Beach. Learn about environmental soundscape and acoustic ecology and use parabolic and binaural microphones to collect sounds on-location in the James River Park System. Led by Kinetic Imaging adjunct faculty Vaughn Whitney Garland, this workshop is part of KI's summer series "Experiments in Sound". $45. Register at the URL below.

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program: Trekking in Iceland
Saturday, Jul. 21, 2018 at 9 a.m.
The VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program is heading to Iceland for their annual summer trip, starting in Reykjavík, where participants will have time to take in local culture. The group will then travel to central Iceland for the backpacking leg of the trip. Participants will trek along trails with views of volcanic mountains, massive glaciers and cascading waterfalls. Cost will be $595 for students, $795 for members and $895 for the general public.

Research Assistant Interest Meeting

The Pediatric Asthma Research Team in the VCU Psychology department is holding a meeting for students interested in getting research experience at the Center for Psychological Services and Development, 612-620 N. Lombardy St. The team will provide an overview of the research being conducted, research assistant involvement and general expectations.
'Targeting Epigenetic Control of Cancer Stem Cells'
Thursday, Jul. 5, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The VCU School of Pharmacy Department of Medicinal Chemistry will present Jiong Li, adjunct professor in the Division of Oral Biology and Medicine, School of Dentistry and Broad Stem Cell Research Center at the University of California, Los Angeles, for a lecture on "Targeting Epigenetic Control of Cancer Stem Cells" in the first floor Founders Conference Room at Biotech One.

VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program Climbing Clinics
The VCU Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program hosts climbing clinics at the Cary Street Gym, climbing wall. Participants will learn various techniques in the Belay and Climbing Skills Clinics. The Belay Clinic will cater to beginner climbers while allowing them to become one step closer in being a self-sufficient climber. The Climbing Skills Clinic will teach intermediate and advanced techniques and is appropriate for climbers of all skill levels.

Healthcare Workers with Occupational Low Back Injury within 14 Days Invited for Research Study
If you are a direct patient care healthcare worker over the age of 18 and have had an occupational low back injury within the last 14 days to your back, you may be eligible to participate in a research study evaluating the relationships among biopsychosocial and environmental factors in healthcare workers. Participants will be compensated for their time.
VCUDine Welcomes Au Bon Pain, Shake Smart as New On-Campus Dining Locations
VCUDine welcomes two new campus dining locations to VCU, opening during the Fall 2018 semester. Au Bon Pain, a bakery café, will open at 944 W. Grace St. in the former VCU Police headquarters. Shake Smart, a fresh smoothie location, will open in the former Market 810-2-GO space inside Shafer Court Dining Center. Both locations will accept meal exchange swipes and dining dollars. For those without a dining plan, cash and credit will be accepted. Follow @VCU_Dining for information and updates.
