VCU to Conduct Test of Emergency Communications

VCU will conduct a full test of its emergency communications and alerting systems, including sirens on the Monroe Park and MCV campuses and at VCU Police headquarters, at noon Feb. 6. The full test will include the sirens along with text messages, Alertus boxes, mass email, digital signs, desktop alerts, LiveSafe, social media and VCU website information — all part of a multichannel system for communicating emergency information to VCU students, faculty, staff, visitors and the community. VCU Police will send out text messages to VCU Alert subscribers prior to and during testing, and once testing has concluded.

Chili’s Hosts Watch Parties for Men’s Basketball Away Games

In February, cheer with fellow Rams at the official Men’s Basketball Watch Parties at Chili’s at VCU. Catch the HAVOC on Feb. 6 vs. George Washington (7 p.m.), Feb. 9 vs. St. Bonaventure (2 p.m.), and Feb. 16 vs. Dayton (4 p.m.). Games will be live on all of Chilis’ screens, plus fans can take advantage of specials like the $5 game-day burger. Wear VCU gear for free giveaways and prizes. VCU Rec Sports 10K Training

A new course offered by VCU Recreational Sports is designed to prepare runners for 10K races. The course begins Feb. 26. Personal trainers will use team runs and body weight movements to improve cardiovascular fitness, mobility, endurance and speed. Registration ends Feb. 22.

Participants Are Invited for Study Examining Estrogen and Blood Vessel Function

We are seeking females and males between the ages of 18 and 35 to participate in a study examining the effect of estrogen on blood vessel health and function at rest and during exercise. This study will be conducted at the 500 Academic Centre, 1020 W. Grace St. The principal investigator is Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
