Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness

The Peer Health Educators from the Wellness Resource Center are sponsoring Pink Out events with the VCU Women's Volleyball team on the Floyd Avenue side of Harris Hall lawn. Events will also be held from noon-1 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Siegel Center. Featured will be games to promote breast cancer awareness, demonstrations on how to do self-examinations and giveaways for students wearing pink.

Free Screening of 'Paywall: The Business of Scholarship'

VCU Libraries will have a free screening of "Paywall: The Business of Scholarship" in Rooms 250 and 2-010, Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, 509 N. 12th St. The documentary focuses on the need for open access to research and science, questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion a year that flows into academic publishers and examines the 35-40 percent profit margin associated with the top academic publisher, Elsevier. A discussion will follow the film.

The VCU Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care's Seventh Annual Emswiller Interprofessional Symposium is now accepting abstract submission for workshops, oral presentations and posters. The symposium will be at Virginia Crossings Hotel and Conference Center, 1000 Virginia Center Parkway, Glen Allen. The deadline for workshops and oral presentations is Oct. 29. Poster submissions are due Nov. 26. Questioning Cinema Film Series: 'The Manchurian Candidate'

VCU Recreational Sports Lifeguard Recertification
VCU Recreational Sports Lifeguard Recertification class is open to those with current American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR/AED certifications. This class will recertify participants for two years. Registration ends at noon on Nov. 1. The course will be held Nov. 2-4.

Male Participants Sought for Research Project
VCU's Kinesiology and Health Science Department is seeking males interested in participating in a research project that will assess the impact of a high active or low active lifestyle and cellular aging on cognitive performance. Participants will be entered for a chance to win an Amazon gift card. Potential participants must be healthy and between 40 and 64 years old with a body mass index less than 30.0 assessed by the research staff. Participants will be asked to attend two morning visits for an exercise test and two brief cognitive tests.
