University Forum on Diversity and Inclusion
Ensuring a culture of accountability, fairness and justice at VCU will be discussed at a university forum hosted by the Division for Inclusive Excellence and the Office of the Provost from noon-1:30 p.m. Dec. 3 in the Richmond Salons, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. The event will also be livestreamed at http://provost.vcu.edu/inclusivestatement and an accompanying online form will allow viewers to submit comments that can inform the work of a new task force that will be examining individual, institutional and systemic bias at the university.

Au Bon Pain, 944 W. Grace St., will open at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 3. The first 50 guests at VCUDine's newest location will receive a free croissant, samples and giveaways. The bakery café, owned by Panera Bread with over 300 locations in the United States, India and Thailand, serves sandwiches, soups, salads, baked goods and beverages.

Healthy Eating #MindfulFinals PopUp

'Exploring the Trends, Players and Impacts of Immigration Enforcement Policies'

Immigrant enforcement policies in Virginia will be the topic of a panel discussion. The L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs will present "Virginia is for immigrants? Exploring the trends, players, and impacts of immigration enforcement policies." The brown-bag luncheon session will be in the lower level of the Raleigh Building, 1001 W. Franklin St. Featured will be perspectives from the Office of Public Policy Outreach/Center for Public Policy's public policy polls and academic research. Panelists include Brittany Keegan, a doctoral student, Wilder School, and Salta Liebert, Ph.D., associate professor, public administration, Wilder School. Because of You: 'RAS: To Boldly Go Where None Have Gone Before'

Inhibiting the growth of cancer tumors is the topic of a talk about research at VCU. Paul Dent, Ph.D., professor of biochemistry, will present “RAS: To Boldly Go Where None Have Gone Before” at a lecture hosted by VCU's Office of Research and Innovation. Dent's research team has discovered a way to inhibit RAS, a protein that drives cancer tumor growth and chemotherapy resistance, and enhance the degradation of mutant RAS proteins, leading to an upcoming clinical trial.

Spit for Science Undergraduate Research Symposium

VCU Police Holiday Blood Drive

VCU Police will hold a blood drive at its headquarters at 224 E. Broad St. The department has set a goal to collect 24 pints of blood for the American Red Cross, which currently has a blood shortage. A climbing trip near Monterrey, Mexico, will be hosted by VCU's Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program. The El Portrero Chico Climbing Trip is scheduled for Jan. 5-12.
