Richmond's First African Baptist Church Contemporary Choir will make an encore appearance at the ICA. The choir will also perform at 3 p.m. Jan. 19 over the Martin Luther King weekend at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. EarthHacks is a two-day environmental hackathon at VCU's College of Engineering East Hall, 401 W. Main St. Students from all majors are given 24 hours to brainstorm and generate solutions for real-world environmental challenges. Mentors will provide guidance. Proposed solutions can involve hardware, software, art, text and other materials.

VCU's Massey Cancer Center is accepting internal applications for the Early K99/R00 award. The award is designed to suit the career paths of postdoctoral fellows pursuing careers in data science and cancer control science, who typically require only a short period of mentored research training beyond their doctoral degrees before obtaining independent faculty positions. VCU Recreational Sports Lifeguard Certification classes will be offered in February, April and May. Instruction will provide individuals with the skills necessary to prevent and deal with aquatic emergencies. This certificate is valid for two years. Individuals with an expiring certification may take the American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification course, to be held in March, to renew certification for another two years.
