Exploring SoCRA as a Professional Credentialing Organization
Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Patti Feldt and Shirley Helm will speak at the Central Virginia Society of Clinical Research Associates chapter meeting. Feldt and Helm will discuss SoCRA's mission, goals and policies; pathways to Certified Clinical Research Professional Certification; and the recertification process and requirements. The meeting will be held in Rooms 11-101 and 11-102, James W. and Frances G. McGlothlin Medical Education Center, 1201 E. Marshall St. Feldt is training and education manager at VCU Massey Cancer Center. Helm is manager of VCU's clinical trial administration.

Provocations Performance: First African Baptist Church Contemporary Choir
Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 at 4 p.m.
Richmond's First African Baptist Church Contemporary Choir will make an encore appearance at the ICA. The choir will also perform at 3 p.m. Jan. 19 over the Martin Luther King weekend at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St., again singing songs important to the civil rights movement.

EarthHacks Set for Jan. 26-27
Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at 1 p.m.
EarthHacks is a two-day environmental hackathon at VCU's College of Engineering East Hall, 401 W. Main St. Students from all majors are given 24 hours to brainstorm and generate solutions for real-world environmental challenges. Mentors will provide guidance. Proposed solutions can involve hardware, software, art, text and other materials.

Chili’s Hosts Watch Parties for Men’s Basketball Away Games
Cheer with fellow Rams at the official Men’s Basketball Watch Parties during January at Chili’s at VCU. Catch the HAVOC on Jan. 12 vs. Davidson (2 p.m.), Jan. 23 vs. Rhode Island (7 p.m.) and Jan. 26 vs. Duquesne (2 p.m.). Games will be live on Chili's screens, plus fans can take advantage of specials like the $5 game-day burger. Wear VCU gear for free giveaways and prizes. Deadline Extended for Submission of Abstracts to Surgery Symposium
Submission of abstracts for consideration at the Virginia Global Surgery Symposium has been extended to Jan. 14. Free Bus Ride to March for Life in Washington

Limited Submission Opportunity for National Cancer Institute K99/R00 Award
VCU's Massey Cancer Center is accepting internal applications for the Early K99/R00 award. The award is designed to suit the career paths of postdoctoral fellows pursuing careers in data science and cancer control science, who typically require only a short period of mentored research training beyond their doctoral degrees before obtaining independent faculty positions. VCU Rec Sports Lifeguard Certification
VCU Recreational Sports Lifeguard Certification classes will be offered in February, April and May. Instruction will provide individuals with the skills necessary to prevent and deal with aquatic emergencies. This certificate is valid for two years. Individuals with an expiring certification may take the American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification course, to be held in March, to renew certification for another two years.
