VCU's University Academic Advising will host "Ready," a resource fair to help first-year students make a smooth transition to sophomore year. The event will be held in the Commonwealth Ballroom, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Information will be available about paying for sophomore year, choosing between on- and off-campus housing, taking summer classes, declaring your pre-medicine track and more.

Applying for Summer Undergraduate Research Programs at VCU

VCU's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program will host an informational session for students interested in applying for funded, summer research programs at VCU. The event will be in Room 2129, Grace E. Harris Hall, 1015 Floyd Ave. VCU offers over a dozen summer programs that provide undergraduates with funding support to conduct research under the guidance of faculty mentors. Students interested in all disciplines and areas of research are welcome.

Smash the Stigma of HIV/STIs

An event to better understand and acknowledge the stigma behind STD/STIs will be held in the Shockoe Room, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Activities at the event, hosted by peer educators from VCU's Wellness Resource Center, will include condom demos, anonymous polls and educational presentations.

1619: Rethinking the History of Africans and Slavery in Early America

Learn more about Virginia's role in the story of America with Michael Guasco, Ph.D. He is an associate professor of history at Davidson College and the author of "Slaves and Englishmen: Human Bondage in the Early Modern Atlantic World." The event, the first in the year-long series "Virginia's Past, Present, and Future," is presented by VCU's Humanities Research Center and Department of History in partnership with American Evolution: Virginia to America, 1619-2019. The talk will be in the third-floor lecture hall, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave.

'Falling in Love Everyday': A Play About Addiction

The Wellness Resource Center and Rams in Recovery present "Falling in Love Everyday." The production will be performed in the Rams Lounge, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Written and performed by Jack Shultz, the play weaves together personal stories of the highs and lows of love, addiction and loss.

VCU eID Account Claim Changes
VCU is improving its eID system, which allows users to log in and access university resources. All individuals with an active eID will be required to claim their account on the system. The account claim process will begin on or shortly before Jan. 29, and will occur during individual required annual password changes. To claim an account, users will be required to provide date of birth and VCUCard number or date of birth and V-number.

VCU Rec Sports Outdoor Adventure Program Spring Break Trips
Make the most of your spring break by traveling with VCU's OAP to Nevada or Chile. Participants can join the Outdoor Adventure Program in the desert of Nevada to practice climbing skills and learn new techniques. The excursion in Chile's northern Patagonia offers the opportunity to talk to residents, visit national parks and stop along the way to hike and camp. Both trips are from March 2-10. Registration for both ends on Feb. 22.

Are You 18-25 Years Old and Do You Smoke Cigarettes?
Men and women between the ages of 18-25 who smoke cigarettes are invited to participate in a research study that requires five, three-hour laboratory visits. Compensation (up to $360) is provided. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining Physical Activity and Sleep Quality
We are seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 to participate in a study examining the effect of physical activity on sleep quality. Individuals must be willing to significantly increase their physical activity level (5,000-plus steps per day) for two weeks. This study will be conducted at the 500 Academic Centre, 1020 W. Grace St. The principal investigator is Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

Virtual Immersive Gaming to Optimize Recovery in Low Back Pain
Are you currently experiencing low back pain, between the ages of 18-60 years old and interested in the possibility of nine weeks of nonsurgical experimental treatment? If you answered yes to all three you may qualify for our research. What? New, innovative and fun virtual reality games are designed to help people with chronic back pain move and feel better. Where? All appointments, testing and treatments are conducted at VCU. When? Participation in the study involves 24 one-hour appointments scheduled over a 57-week period. Who?
