English Faculty Forum: Hanna Pylväinen
Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 from noon to 1 p.m.
Hanna Pylväinen will discuss "White Writer in Sápmi (Lapland): Multi- and Inter-ethnic Representations in the (my) Contemporary Novel." The talk will be given in Room 308 Hibbs Hall, 900 Park Ave. Pylväinen, an assistant professor of fiction at VCU, considers the imaginative limits of perspective in writing a novel set in 1850s Lapland with multiple points-of-view and characters who identify as Sámi, European indigenous people. The talk is hosted by VCU's English Faculty Forum.

Barbara A. Roby Scholarship for Students With Disabilities
The Barbara A. Roby Scholarship is offered through the Office of Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity. A scholarship of up to $2,000 is awarded to a VCU undergraduate with a disability registered with Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity or Division for Academic Success. Applicants must demonstrate leadership or service to the community, have a GPA of 2.5 or above, be enrolled in a degree-seeking program and demonstrate financial need.

Call for Participants: Views on Campus Tobacco Use and Smoking Policies
Students are invited to participate in a focus group discussion on smoking and tobacco use on campus. The focus group, hosted by VCU's Department of Health Behavior and Policy, will last 60-90 minutes and food will be provided. Meetings will be held Feb. 18 and Feb. 19 at One Capitol Square, 830 E. Main St. The purpose of the group is to learn more about what students think about smoking and tobacco use on campus and their views about tobacco-free policies being implemented on college campuses.
