Jazz 4 Justice Benefit Concert

VCU's Department of Music presents Jazz 4 Justice in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall, W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. VCU Jazz Orchestras I and II and Vox Concordia will perform. Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney will be guest conductor. A reception will precede the concert. Advance tickets are $35 general admission and $20 for students and seniors. Tickets at the door will be $40 general admission and $25 students and seniors. Proceeds will assist pro bono services and VCU Jazz scholarships.

Rethinking the Public Restroom: Signage Design Workshop
3 p.m.
A workshop to explore gender binaries, the body, identity, public space and social politics will be held at The Anderson, 907 1/2 W. Franklin St. Restrooms are a space in which many transgender and nonbinary individuals face discrimination and can provoke anxiety. As a call to action, the discussion is an effort to deconstruct the restroom to build a new system of signage. Sara Ferguson and Asad Pervaiz will lead the event.

Cary Street Crux, a Climbing Event
Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
VCU Recreational Sports' Outdoor Adventure Program will host a climbing event, Cary Street Crux, at the Cary Street Gym, 101 S. Linden St. The event is part of the Eastern Edge Climbing Series within Virginia and North Carolina universities. Prizes will be awarded and snacks and T-shirts will be available. Registration is open until Feb. 9, the day of the event.

Discovering How Family History Can Help Understand Problem Drinking

Family history and problem drinking will be examined at a VCU Discovery Dialogues presentation. The C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research invites faculty, staff, students, patients and families to "Family history: Discovering how this well-known tool can help clinicians understand problem drinking." Proposals Sought for Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Research Award Fund
VCU’s Virginia Center on Aging is accepting grant applications through March 15 for the Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Research Award Fund. Applicants must be affiliated with colleges or universities, research institutes or other not-for-profit organizations in Virginia. Awards are limited to $45,000 each. Submission Deadline Extended for Brain Injury Rehabilitation Conference
The deadline for poster and oral presentation submissions for the 43rd Annual Brain Injury Rehabilitation Conference has been extended to Feb. 15. The conference is co-produced by the VCU School of Medicine's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department and the Brain Injury Association of Virginia. Wilderness First Responder Course
VCU's Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Program will host a wilderness first responder course. The class will cover survival skills, with an emphasis on handling environmental and medical emergencies.
